This poor burrowing owl somehow lost it’s footing as it tried to land on this branch - and ended up upside down with it’s right claw stuck to a nub on the branch. It was hanging upside down for more than a couple of minutes before some human intervention caused it to finally break free. I believe the owl is just fine aside from a bruised ego.

Thank you, Kenny! It does look like he’s thinking of gnawing his leg off, but he was really just using his beak to try and extricate his stuck claw. The poor thing! He must have been quite terrified when a few photographers approached him - although they did stop when the owl started struggling to free himself- and found out that it wasn’t so easy to do!

Thanks! I do feel for the owl too. He must have been real scared and panicked when a few people started walking towards him. His claw was really stuck, so it’s just as well that we pushed him to free himself, as otherwise he could have remained in that state for a long time.
