p.1 #1 · Anybody tried mount conversion service of Sigma lenses to E-mount?
I have 24/1.4 and 135/1.8 in Nikon F-mount.
Both can be converted to E-mount in Sigma service center.
Did anybody try such conversion?
I'm trying to find if it will be better to convert them or sell and buy new in E-mount. Both are optically great. I'm not happy with focus reliability with 24 on my D750, but 135 is ok. In LV, they both focus well, but slow.
I also wonder how perfectly it would be aligned mechanically (affecting corners).

Are you sure they are offering E-mount conversion and not just Sigma/Canon/Nikon/A-mount/Pentax mount conversions? I don't remember reading that they started offering E-mount conversion. They do offer E-mount and M43 conversions but only on mirrorless lenses as far as I can gather from their website. They had to add a full on MC-11 extension for the native-E mount lenses (FF lenses) so I have doubts they offer the conversion you want

Sigma has planned of offering conversion services onto E-mount but whether they have implemented/started this service or not, I am not sure. At this point I only have a single Sigma lens, the 135mm f/1.8 Art in Canon-mount and either Metabones or Sigma MC-11 works just splendidly on that lens. But for folks with Nikon-mount lenses like the OP, it may be worth trying.

They said they would offer the service once the Sony FE mount lenses were available, (in fact it's a little later) "Mount Conversion Service for eligible lenses to be converted to Sony E-mount system will start 2 weeks after the release date of each lens."
So the 135mm is not yet available. Not sure when the 24mm was in stock.

I just saw all Sigma FE primes (including 24 and 135) in stock in a shop I use often (Megapixel.cz in Prague). But that is very recent, they did not have 24 and 135 in stock last week.

He has Nikon lenses, not Canon so could be worth it in that case. I agree I wouldn’t bother with converting Canon lenses. There is no MC-11 for Nikon.

Not sure whether you would gain any performance or even a more compact combo. Probably better to remain with the MC-11 and continue to update its FW.

Depending on how big the market is for used Sigma lenses in Nikon mount over there, and the cost Sigma would charge to do the mount conversion, maybe you should look into just selling your existing Nikon-mount lenses and get the E-mount directly without going through the conversion route. I would do it that way if I were you. Plus, you will be without your lenses for at least a week, if not longer, too.
Local prices are different: http://awh.cz/cenik/sigma/
There are three tiers based on lens type: DN 1700CZK ($77), "basic" 3100 CZK ($141), "long focals" 5200 CZK ($236). Prices include tax (unless stated otherwise).
I suppose that it will be "basic" for 24/1.4 but "long focals" price for 135 (price for it on linked Sigma USA pricelist is also higher tier than 24).
So prices are slightly better than buying new and selling used (but keeping new over keeping old converted).

So I asked AWH.cz for price quote and the prices are higher than what was on their web. They are not doing this themselves for these lenses, they are sending them to Sigma (probably Japan). Cost is about 4500 CZK ($214) for 24mm and 7500 CZK ($357) for 135mm plus postage (not sure if they meant local postage or postage to Sigma). At these prices it is not worth to convert mount, but rather sell and buy new (getting a new warranty, possibly updated hardware revision in the 24mm which I bought in 2015).
I can also rethink if I want to get different lenses. I have Sony 28/2 which is focal range close to 24 (especially when 28 is uncorrected for barrel distortion), but smaller size and weight. So I'm not in pressure to buy 24 and even if I would, I would be still using 28 a lot due to weight and size. I will likely rebuy 135, I loved it, though sometimes it felt it is too long as I needed to be too far from subjects. There is now 105/1.4 but it weights 0.5kg more. That is quite significant difference. I also read it also wont be available for Sony E until fall.
