p.1 #1 · Scenes from a Wedding

I clicked these at my friends' wedding in Alibag, India. They had a traditional Maharashtrian wedding.

Not knowing who shot these pictures, I would have known it was you. Such a distinctive color palette with the strong yellows, oranges, and reds. Only the final pic diverges from this style. In fact, for me, these are really more about the colors than the subject matter. Except for #3 with the clever closeup of the outstretched arms, hands, and box with flower. The composition and story really stand out for me in this one. Still, the brighter red of the arm covers offers pop and appeal for me. I like the fourth with the focus on the bride (who cares about the groom?). I like the way her eyes are off camera and off groom while his eyes gaze down at her. I might like to see the bright area of his garb bottom left darkened or desaturated a bit. The second pic makes me think that there is the possibility of an abstract with a shot including only her dress and hennaed hand.

Awesome stuff

Do indians today no longer marry who their parents tell them to ? Just because bride and groom are quite a bit older than I would have expected if arranged marriage was still the norm.

Just love the Eastern traditional weddings. Always colorful! Always smiling and happy. Great job Deepak!
Might you explain some of the meanings of the ceremony to a Westerner(3&4)?
Thanks!
Dan

Very colorful ceremony with some nice, sharp, close up shots.

Though the arranged marriage is still the norm, more and more people not find their own life partners like in the case of my friends there

Thank you Dan
The ceremonies vary a fair bit from place to place in India but essentially the main ceremony happens around fire with a priest chanting prayers and the couple performing certain rituals.

Lack of adequate DOF spoils a number of the shots. Something unimportant in the background is OK but not a key subject like the groom or people or parts of people in the foreground.

I can always add blur in post but I cannot take a blurred section in an image and make it sharp.
