this kestrel was my hero for today ! it just stayed seated 7.5meter in front of my car I took al few shots with the bare 500pf and some with the tc-14e III at 700mm.
Northern Hawk Owl.
He was very far and I had to shoot through the woods.
He was more patient than I was and stayed the whole afternoon on the same perch.

I’ve never seen one in the wild, very cool.
One thing I’m starting to notice with this lens (over the 200-500) is better quality for distance shots like this (with atmospheric conditions being equal). I’m also liking the quality of it with the 1.4x tc.
Back when shot Canon I had the Canon 400 f/5.6L and it took TCs beautifully (and the size/weight/AF speed was great), only thing missing was IS. When I moved to Nikon about a year ago I wished for a similar lens and the 500PF is it plus more.
Finally got the lens. We have some limitation in wildlife with breezy, snowy days. Still, I got some shots, without any TC , yet. Thank you all for the great forum to help with riding out the delays in getting this lens. So far, I am very impressed and still in the process of trying options. One thing for sure; I had a great 5 mile walk on Sunday without being tired as with the heavier lenses.
The pictures are minimally processed, but some or most are heavily cropped.

Do you typically have Hummingbirds in the middle of winter?! All of ours escape to the south.
Yes, our Anna's stay all winter...what we don't have typically is snow...especially this much snow....at least 2 feet on my driveway...I had Crocus blooming in my garden last week....they are now buried....
