500 PF air show question:
Back yard animals and air show is why I bought the 500PF. I own the Nikon D850 only right now. For air show use, do you think D850 or D500 with 500 PF would be a better choice?

Thanks,

Before I had the D500 or the D850 I had a D750 and a D600. I went to Pensacola, Fl to see the Naval Aviation Museum and tto shoot a practice of the Blue Angels. A couple of years later, I went back but this time I had the D500 with the same Sigma 150-600 sport lens that I used on the previous trip. The D500 worked much better and faster. It focused much faster and stayed locked on to the fast moving Blue Angels. I had a much higher percentage of keepers.
Fast forward to now and the 850 is a lot closer in focus speed and holding lock. Even in crop mode the camera is very close to the D500. However, I still will pick up the D500 as the focus speed(IMHO) is faster and the look through the viewfinder is better than the cropped D850.
With that said, you can add the grip and get the D850 to 9FPS for much cheaper than buying a D500 body. One thing I do like about shooting wildlife with the 850 is you can crop more than the D500 crop and have better IQ if shooting at the highest resolution. The setup will be very close to the abilities of the D500 and could actually get very nice images even without cropping. The only real disadvantage will be the size and weight of the D850 over the D500 even without the grip. The grip will add even more weight and is bulky.

Thank you,
I want to buy a D500 anyway so it's going to be a matter of which body to take with the 500PF.
