And like other mirrorless cameras, the Z7 has the electronic first curtain shutter as well as the tandem IS from body and lens, so you can set the lens to sport mode and still have the horizontal stablization of the body. The D500 has a pretty hefty mirror/shutter assembly slap which you can feel resonate through the little 500PF barrel.
So the Z7 should be a great birding camera.

I'll second Lance's reply....for BIF you can certainly get shots with the Z cameras but if you want reliable results get a D850, D500, D5 or D6. The AF is actually pretty good but tracking and panning is difficult because you are either looking at a slow FPS clunky live image or at fast FPS delayed slideshow image and you will quickly fall behind your subject as you fire and pan. The Z cameras are preferred for non-BIF because the focus is more accurate IMO being direct on the sensor.
We had a brief snow shower Sunday night. The snow was followed by some backyard bird visitors. Sitting from within my "blind," I managed to take a few shots of a pheasant searching for some wayward seeds.
All shots are uncrossed w/ the 500PF... perfect for this type of photography!
Spent a few hours hiking in throughout one of my favorite river-bottoms forest.
It was just Tamy and I... and about 20 deer.
Here's one that posed for a portrait
hello everyone, this is my first post and im looking for a little bit of help. i just got the 500pf from all the good reviews and even people i know that have this lens saying how awesome it is, so i bit the bullet and went for it. i feel like i ended up with a really bad copy of this lens bc no matter what i shoot whether stationary or in action its always blurry and very inconsistent with the focus. keep in mind i have a 200-500 as well and have absolutely no focusing issues with that lens. the furthest shot i have here is the seagull thats maybe 30ft out max. the goose and the smaller bird are less than 15ft
i am shooting with a d500 and each shot is between 1/1600-1/2500th iso under 500 and from f6.3-f.8
which is giving me a focal length of 750mm.
i have compared to two of my friends who use this same lens on d850's and were not using TC's at the time of our tests and we cropped into photos 1:1 and 3:1 and they are showing significantly more focus and detail at the same settings as me standing next to me, the only difference is they are shooting with an effective 500mm vs my 750mm, which should be in my favor but apparently isnt. any help from you guys would be greatly appreciated!! and before anyone asks i have fine tuned the lens as well with no difference in IQ or focus. all of these shots are completely unedited, just cropped and posted here
