I might have been one of the first in the USA to have the 500PF.
Now it looks like I'm the first to have lost one
When I sent my Sony a9 in for hotshoe fix Premier e-mailed me the day it was received.
I shipped the D850+1.4TCiii+500PF to Melville NY on the 10th, they received on the 12th.
No e-mail. No phone call.
I have the signed FedEx receipt.
So I call Nikon.
They had not a clue as to having received. Not a clue in looking up by my name or serial numbers
of camera or lens.
I insured the box with all 3 components for 8K but FedEx did their job.
You'd possibly think this is bad eh. Happily body and lens are insured full replacement value current market price no deductible.
I told the rep I'd give 48 hours, then file theft claim for insurance with the Melville police.
Shame State Farm could end up paying for Nikon thieves.
All my fault, wanting the rig to be the best it could be.....greedy me.

Sorry to hear this, MM. Lets hope you get it sorted to your complete satisfaction.
Thanks Lance,
Don't know if this is a 'lesson learned' about Nikon
and there's always a Sony rig on the shelf so no big worries.
I was kinda of fond of the 500PF though.
Did learn how easy remuneration would be from the insurance company so
I'll be out little real money. I've never had to test State Farm before
I suppose every big company has a bad day so I'll reserve judgement for now.

Sorry to hear about this unfortunate situation! Since you have a copy of the signed receipt from the Nikon NY service center, I would try to work with them before filing a claim with State Farm (which will cost you at least a little bit, from what I have heard). Ask to speak to a Nikon NY service center supervisor. If they don't help you, then ask to speak to their supervisor. Write all the names down. This type of protocol has worked for me at other institutions.
Regarding State Farm... I also use them to cover my camera gear, but I have never had to file a claim (knock on wood). I have heard that your rates with State Farm will increase once you do file a claim. So, I will only file a claim with them on something expensive and only as a last resort.

I love the 2nd one!
Are you referring to the two rabbit images? If so, the second image is my favorite too. However, the first image is interesting. Take a look at the eyes of the rabbit and notice how far out they extend. Talk about a protruding front lens element! It would be fascinating to see what their view of the world looks like. As an animal somewhat down the food chain, I am guessing that they have something close to a 360 degree view of the world.
Keith these things happen right
Yep it will be a learning experience with State Farm that's for sure. But I'm liked
there (several houses way too many vehicles, etc. with them).
Truthfully I was a bit shocked at the situation with Nikon services.....something I'd kinda expect
more with Sony since Sony is new to the big leagues.
But If I do have to cash out Nikon, well without the 500PF I don't have a big interest in DSLRs, I'll
probably sink the State Farm payout into the Sony 400mm....why not.
48 hours and I'll know one way or another.
I'm still scratching my head on why I sent it off in the first place.
Forgot to compliment the killer rabbit shot!
Last I saw a rabbit was in the fall, held down on the ground in my front yard but a juvenile Red-tailed Hawk.
Pixels per bird per kilogram is not very favourable to the A9+400/2.8 vs. D500+500/5.6 PF though if you can fill the frame with the former, no doubt excellent results will be obtained.
The Sony 400mm f2.8 FE is also quite a unicorn.
But if you can obtain it, it take takes TCs quite well giving you an 800mm f5.6 at about 6.5lbs. But this thread ain’t about the Sony is it? So I’ll stop there.
I think I did a terrible thing! I traded my PF for a 200mm f2.
That is one fine bokeh. I guess when you use it right, it's not a problem.
I'm also awaiting for warblers to show up. Will check the orchard tomorrow morning.

Keith W.
Indeed. Never really noticed how far those extend until now. Thanks for pointing it out!

I guess Nikon is having some real issue with fulfilling the 500mm PF orders. They just take whatever 500mm PF you sent in and use it to satisfy the orders.
Well my Nikon saga contiues, from an e-mail today-
'Response from Ajamu J.
Thank you for calling Nikon
As per our conversation, Service has gotten back to me an we have found your products.....'
So in a big way they admit to having lost a big box with a body/lens/TC inside and the mandatory
3 inches of expanding foam for $117 shipping fee via FedEx.
