p.2 #5 · Photographs from upcoming Yosemite artist-in-residence exhibit
I wasn't going to keep this thread going by adding comments, but I see that several folks have chimed in, so...
... thanks!
The first one is likely to be the "signature" print from the exhibit. Making it was a matter of having thoroughly scouted the shot (down to exact camera position, time of day, season, and likely post-processing, etc) ahead of time... and then getting very lucky with light (Fortune favoring the prepared, and all that.) I could predict just about everything else in that photograph in advance... except for the fact that a single beam of light came through broken clouds at just the right minute to strike the trees.
The vertical black and white photograph is a personal favorite. Everyone photographs this location, so it isn't easy to come up with a way of "seeing" it that isn't quite a bit like those prior photographs — and there have been some real beauties of this location. Again, it was probably a matter of knowing the subject ahead of time and... you guessed it... the fortunate coincidence of being there on a morning when the light did magical things. (Oh, and patience. During the hour or so I spent at this spot watching the conditions come and go, perhaps dozens of other photographers came and went.)
The public artist reception for the show is this Saturday, June 9 at 5:00-8:00PM in Oakhurst, CA. I'll be there, along with the folks I asked to collaborate with me on the project (Jerry Bosworth, Franka Mlikota Gabler, Charlotte Hamilton Gibbs, David Hoffman, Vidya Kane, Kerby Smith)... and perhaps a surprise guest or two. If you are in the Yosemite area come by and say "hi!" (The exhibit runs through the end of June.)

I think you were a great choice for the Yosemite artist-in-residence and that is an amazing set of images. I am too far away now to drop by Oakhurst, but congratualations and I'm sure the reception will be will worth attending.

Thank you SharonVL, Howard Fassett, and kalifornier!
For folks visiting the park this month, you can see the prints (mine and those of the group of fellow photographers I asked to collaborate with me) at Gallery 5 in Oakhurst, CA.

(BTW: Recognizing that some posters occasionally reply to every poster as a way to keep their post in the mix, I'm not going to "go there." I may reply if there are, say, three or more additional replies or if I see a specific question — but otherwise, accept my thanks in advance here! :-) )
