and MF with a 25mm should be a fair bit easier due to greater DOF...)
I dissagree
On a wider lens, with greater DOF, a much greater area of the image will appear to be in focus.

I wish I did't review this thread and the comparison images. Nothing like a side by side compare to really see how a lens draws. Now I can't unsee
I like that the Lox 25 has a narrower AOV. (perhaps a true 25mm). At the end, they both have special rendering but if you are sensitive to axial CA, the Batis is definitely the worse offender.

I have the Batis 25, but shoot people. I use it for wide group shots, getting ready, and reception time.
The AF is superb, so is the size of the lens.
I have noticed that the focal length is actually 23mm, which was mentioned before (I believe by FM), so just confirming!
I typically shoot two bodies at the same time. The B 25 (err 23) works great when paired with my Zony 50 1.4, when I'm inside or during in/out parts of my day. When I'm outside, I usually switch to 35/85. or 50/70-200

Cheers
If I was shooting weddings or events, I would probably choose the Batis 25 as well.

What people buy the Loxia 25 mm and what people buy the Batis 25 mm?
I've tried both, and have really a hard time making a decision. (I use A7Rii, tripod, multiple scenes, AF and MF with the Batis.)
Yes, of course I have images and can do A to B comparisons, but I do want to hear from this forum what you think.
Therefore, whom do you recommend the Batis and whom do you recommend the Loxia? And vice versa.
Best regards

I have both lenses and I shoot primarily manual focus and I think the Loxia is terrific. For things that aren't moving or moving slowly it is phenomenal. My wife used AF and for her the Batis has been a great lens. I do think at this point, however, most would prefer the GM 24 f/1.4 over the Batis. We will probably at some point replace the Batis with the GM 24 for my wife's shooting, but the Batis is still quite good and because of that it hasn't been a priority.

Hello,
thanks for the feedback.
I did compare the SEL2414GM with the Batis25mm:
Yes, the resolution of the GM is one step better than the Batis.
What I kind of don't like is the color rendering of the Sony. Relativ to the Batis it is "dirty" and more cooler.
I do think the Loxia25 has the most neutral color rendering of the three.
In terms of resolution it is at the level of the GM.
In terms of build quality, in my eyes, it is miles ahead of the Sony GM.
What makes me very suspicious is Sony's simulated MTF data.
Nobody, but Sony, does that.
And why would simulated MTF data, free of defraction aspects be relevant for real life?
Yep, I feel fooled, and if I ask the online help from Sony I do get no response ...

Also coming late to the party... I want to talk about my love-hate relationship with the Batis 25.
What I loved - compact, lightweight, sharp sharp sharp, F/2 DOF and light gathering ability with fast AF, wider than advertised as many have already pointed out.
Forgivable / meh - vignetting (easily fixed in post with lens correction); LCD distance scale gimmicky unless you should astro in minimal light; ugly lens.
What I hated - severe LOCA, more than any lens I've ever used and impossible to correct in post.
When I had the lens, it hardly came off my camera. The FL is so versatile as a walkaround snapshot especially as I have a custom button programmed to APS-C crop, giving a 35mm equiv. lens. BUT in the end I just couldn't live with the LOCA - I'm surprised more people don't comment on. it was everywhere, around any foliage against a cloudy sky, on stainless steel coffee machines... I switched to the Sony 16-35 F4 recently and never looked back. I do miss the F2 but the 16-35 renders bokeh so much nicer without those LOCA outlines.

I bought the Loxia 25mm and love its color rendering and resolution, not to mention the sun-stars. Yes, it is MF only. But with my A7ii, C-AF is a challenge anyway, this camera body is dodgy in this regards. One day I will probably move on to the A7iv, that's when the A7v is out and the price on the A7iv comes down.
