Fred, there is no denying that the images from the Batis show more finging. The bokeh on the other hand... I noticed that the Batis images do have more contrast. And as we know, contrastier images render bokeh harsher. I almost would bet if you lower the contrast of the Batis images, the bokeh will be softer. Maybe not the same as but it will be closer to that of the Loxia. Could you give it a try, please?
Plus, the same shutter speed, ISO and virtually the same aperture, f/2.4 and f/2.5 but yet, the Batis images are a tad darker, too... The difference is very noticeable in the sky. Maybe the light transmission between the two lenses is not the same as I don't think an aperture of f/2.4 and f/2.5 won't be enough to create that difference. What do you think?

Area of focus. Exposure is identical but look how the Batis OOF rendering is higher in contrast in comparison. The Loxia has low contrast bokeh. That's actually a big plus.

The Loxia's OOF rendering is more pleasant to me. It's smoother, lower in contrast and has much less color errors. It's also sharper with higher micro-contrast at the focused area. At infinity, it's sharper across the field at all apertures compared to the Batis. Field curvature is more pronounced while the Batis is pretty much flat-field.
The Batis is faster but at f/2, bokeh is not smoother or blurrier. It may allow for lower ISO in low light as long as transmission is higher, which I did not test for.
So, as far as pure IQ, the Loxia is imo, the clear winner here. The Batis is slightly lighter (40g) and has AF and that's very important to many shooters. Pick your poison. I may pick up a Batis 25/2 for situations where AF is paramount. Wait, I may just keep Joshua's good copy!

To my eyes, the Loxia actually has higher contrast (at the focused area) and lower contrast at the OOF background. It's a very nice look. All histograms from the crops have been equalized as close as possible. Here is another sample showing the focused area and OOF rendering between the two lenses:

Batis with higher contrast at OOF rendering (deeper blacks and more saturated colors). IMO, this is a negative for the Batis.

Just got home from a golf tournament so a chance to look at this. Agree with many points but one wording was left out and it’s brillance. The Loxia just stands out more and it’s not the exposure it’s the highlights are more smoother in tone but brighter. I have the Loxia now and I need a AF lens like a 24/25 so been thinking about the Batis again. For overall I love the Loxia better just like I love the Loxia 85 better over most others like it. Nice comparison Fred. I do like the lower contrast in the Loxia a whole lot more.

Ugh, have spent the last couple of days stressing about the whole which wider angle to buy question. Mostly researching between the Batis 25 and the Sony 28.
Too much stress from the 20% off voucher I think.
I should probably skip buying the Batis for now, and later just buy the Sony 28mm when it's on sale or if I happen to find a good price on a used one.
If I then am not happy with how the 28 compares to my 55 1.8 and Batis 135, THEN I should wait for a sale on the Batis 25. Or who knows, I might use the 28 and decide I want something narrower or wider than the whole 25-28 range.
I know this isn't quite the right thread for it, but since I posted here before, might as well post here again
(Not doing any paid work except for a couple of gigs in the last several years, mostly would be getting the lens for indoor family type use and for family gathering group pictures. And for travel type stuff. Basically something for when the 55's not wide enough.)
Of course if anyone has any more input for or against either option, always love to hear it.

The Loxia's specular highlights, although cleaner than the Batis (no onion pattern), is not completely rounded at f/2.4. Has anyone seeing this on their copy?

I just purchased a Canon FD24mm f2.8 for $100. Not suggesting it's better, but I'm super happy with the results and it's a great compliment to my CV 40/1.2

I've never seen the onion rings in my own photos, nor the "high contrast bokeh". It's pretty important to remember that you won't PP files from different lenses exactly the same, so A/B comparisons can somtimes show differences you won't notice in "real" images from each lens.
However, the Loxia is the clear winner here, in my opinoin. The Batis doesn't seem to be optically better at anything except being faster and focusing a tad closer. I'd definitely choose it if they were released at the same time.

Makten, I did equalize histograms whenever exposure was not identical and that could explain the 'noise' difference. You can see the shutter speeds were never the same. I've seen onion rings in real world images with the B25, but specular highlights are much smaller in wide angle lenses and therefore not really noticeable. (compared to the CV 40/1.2 or 55/1.8 ZA for example)
I agree with you that both lenses are capable of sharp images and smooth low contrast rendering but if I had to say which one is better, I would say 'Loxia'. When images are resized for the web, these differences would be small and perhaps unnoticeable for some viewers.
