p.1 #1 · Anyone compared 25mm Batis and Loxia yet?
Has anyone with both the Loxia 25 and Batis 25 done a side-by-side comparison yet? Can’t find anything on the web. I’m interested to see a direct image quality comparison.

I never tested them side by side but found some Batis 25/2 crops at infinity distance.
IMO, the Loxia 25/2.4 does better at all distances. It also has lower axial color aberration, nicer sunstar rendering, and lower distortion. Both render beautifully though and the Batis has its advantages, being lighter, slightly faster and having AF.
It's not really a fair comparison since the lighting and atmosphere conditions were totally different, but both images share the exact sharpening settings. Here they are at f/4, where the Batis starts to look good. At f/2.8, the Loxia is noticeably better.

Perfect. Appreciate it, Fred. They both look good, with the Loxia slightly sharper. I think the Batis is winning me over with its autofocus and f2 aperture. But then the Loxia is so compact! Thanks for the images.

Yes, they are both great. If you prefer AF, the decision is easy.
I would say the Loxia is higher resolution at all apertures but has more field curvature. Both have some LoCA but the Batis seem less corrected at equal apertures. There seem to be a bit more copy variation for the Batis but you can't go wrong with either one.

Eric,
As Fred mentioned though, it is not a fair comparison due to the different shooting circumstances. The Loxia images appear sharper and contrastier in the comparison but are they actually are? I hope Fred is compelled to do a comparison under the same shooting conditions. Fred , please?

I’m all for that! Sounds like you and Fred may be cooking something up, Joshua.
I would really like to use my 20% Zeiss voucher before the end of the month!

So, Joshua sent me his Batis 25 and I will test them side by side. Will compare aberration control and rendering as well.
Just need the weather to cooperate a bit.

Been planing on buying the Batis 25 again actually just looking for one that is used and cheap. I have the voucher as well it would net out to be 1040 for a new one

I should have the Batis 25 tomorrow and will compare it to the Loxia even if the weather is overcast. As long as they are tested under the same conditions, it should give us a better idea of how they compare.

Thanks Joshua and thanks Fred - looking forward to this comparison!
I love my Batis 25 and have (so far) resisted the temptation to add the Loxia 25. I hate to reproduce focal lengths, so if the Batis can hold its own against the Loxia, I'll be set. If the Loxia is clearly better for landscapes, I would consider adding the Loxia to my kit, but keeping the Batis for walkaround and general non-landscape use.

Yea be nice to see for sure. I’ll keep my Loxia 25 no matter whatever I do even having both. I also have the Tokina 20 AF to think about.
Here is the dilemma for PR work I can shoot in crop mode
Sooooo
Tokina 20mm is also a 30mm in crop mode
Batis 25 becomes a 37mm
So having 50 becomes a 75
So trying to avoid any zoom 2 lenses can cover 4 focal lengths. I need wider than 28 to start. 25 is great but 20 could be a touch to wide. So right now looking at both see what makes sense.
I have a full manual kit that I’m not selling, trading or nothin. It’s my IQ loveliness

I recently got a Loxia 85, and have found that it has noticeably greater micro contrast than the Batis 85. It’s made me very curious as to whether or not there’s a similar difference between the Loxia 25 and Batis 25.
There’s a review on YouTube which mentioned that the FOV of the Loxia is a little narrower — maybe like a true 25mm, vs the Batis which is more like 23/24mm.

The Batis is definitely wider. It was wider than the 12-24/4G @24mm. So, 23mm is not farfetched.
Zeiss specs say the Loxia is 82° and the Batis 81° diag. (infinity)
...but I think the discrepancy is a bit broader.

I tend to lean towards the Loxia are the better lenses . They at least to me have nicer micro contrast and sharpness with great color transition that make them sharp but don’t have that brittle look to it . Or digital look if you will

Have been considering the Batis 25 as one of my options to compliment the 55 1.8 and the Batis 135.
The other options are the Sony 28, Tamron 28-35, and Sony 16-35 f4 or f2.8.
I just searched through my emails, and turns out I actually did receive a 20% off voucher after I bought the 135 lens.
The terms for the voucher say "Sale based on our list price".
Any opinions from you guys on whether or not it can be gotten cheaper than the above-mentioned 1040$?
Like if one of the retailers happens to have a sale on it, or if perhaps it can be gotten for cheaper through Greentoe, and THEN somehow apply the voucher?
Somehow it feels like they either ONLY apply the voucher if you bought it for the full 1299$, or even if you got it on sale, they will only reimburse you the top 20% off the "listed" price, so if you got it for say 1100$, they'll only reimburse you about 60$ or something to match the 1040$.

Would love to see images posted blind to see if we can guess which lens took what image. After a bit, you can let us in on the facts.
