A professional dance company in Chicago hired me to do some projection shooting of them in my studio. The concept was dealing with the issues of today, and coming out of it with hope for the future. While we were waiting for everyone to show up, I got a couple of the dancers to do pose for me against the black background I was planning to use for the projection shoot. So that's the "same" shot.
Just for the record, all these dancers are fully dressed. In some cases, it's hard to see their clothes but that's because I asked them to wear nude-colored shorts and tops.
As for different, we projected images onto the dancers. With some of the shots, we really had to think about whether to use their front side or back side, as the images, combined with the location of the image on the female body, could create a perception of something we really did not intend. So we were pretty careful about the projection.
For the technical aspects of these shots, I was shooting around 1/100 sec, around 2500 ISO, and an f stop of around 2.8. I shot with a Nikon D5 and either my Sigma Art 50 mm, or my 85 1.4G lens. The dancers were also lit with an LED light that I usually use for lighting wedding rings.
4. This was my favorite shot. The dancer was in a difficult pose and we just couldn't find the right place to get the projection on her body, so I asked her to take a break. She sat down like this and we all just started laughing because her position was perfect for the projection. Happy accidents are often the best! http://farm1.staticflickr.com/826/41100455194_7d48206a11_b.jpg
I saw the last one on Instagram a few days ago and was amazed. The other ones are very cool in different ways too. I appreciate the settings and camera info, as this is something I had never seen before until now. Agree on the above comments that it’s well-deserved that you get asked to get cool, unique gigs like that. I’ll be pouring over your Instagram feed this weekend trying to find inspiration for some Pittsburgh dance shots with Megan this weekend (well after the marathon finishes lol).

Thanks, Derrick! I look forward to seeing what you come up with when you do the shoot with Megan! Have fun!
