p.1 #1 · Awesome Aurora over Vestrahorn, Iceland (added one more)
Congratulations to Kee Woo Rhee for winning Feature Thread of the Week with 7 votes - View Previous Winners
On my last trip to Iceland in March, I had this fabulous aurora over the Vestrahorn for several hours.
I stayed there until 4 am without feeling any fatigue because of all the excitement.
Here are a few images that I just processed.
Hope you enjoy them.
ps: I added another aurora show from Vestrahorn, Iceland.

I am always amazed that something like this can get 114 views before it gets any comments.
Great aurora indeed! The red in the 2nd shot is nice, but for me the display in the first, especially with the reflections off the foreground water make it my favorite image of the 2, although I would love to have shot either one! This is maybe just personal preference, but I think I would like to see these with a little more NR applied, at least to compare as they do seem a little noisy. Of course they are shot at ISO 2000 so to be expected I would say. Perhaps you already tried a little more NR and did not like the result. I appreciate the posting of the gear and the exposure info too - wish more folks would do that.
In any case, great captures of a wonderful outburst of aurora in a magical place - thanks for sharing!

Thanks for your comments on the images, especially NR. As you guessed, I tried NR but I didn't like the result that much either. This camera should handle ISO 2000 without much problem, but apparently it didn't. As for the outburst of the aurora.. what can I say? It was "zero" possibility according to the forecast, but gush.. it started popping and dancing. I was excited because this happened one day before my leaving Iceland!! Anyway, I am still working on the images and hopefully I would find more cleaner shots. Will post them.
Thanks!

Excellent Kee!
Did the scene peek at 4am or was it good for a long time?
Hello Robert,
The aurora activity was very high all through the night.
Wanted to go back to the lodging after a few hours of shooting near the mountain, but it was still very strong when I got to the car.. so another couple of hours.. very strong, indeed!

Yes Kee, very beautiful! The noise is a pain but if the PP result is not to your liking..leave the noise there.
If the event gives you a 2nd chance, might I suggest stacking the images. Go very low ISO for the sharpness and keep the hi ISO for the steady stars. (?). I have done photo stacking in astrophotography and it did work very well. I did not use a motorized mount.
