I am needing the hex key tool for the legs. What is the hex(?) key size, or part number form Gitzo. I spent 30 minutes on their site but did not locate tools I need. Thanks
Gitzo GT3541, (not XLS or LS) tripod. Anyone know this unit, have comments to toss out about it. I bought this tripod today off local listing, in a Gitzo slip case. The slipcase is dusty and ugly from being in his garage, but it protected the tripod as it is flawless, can't tell if it was ever used.
You got a great deal. If its not the ls or xls, then I suppose it is the s model, which is a little short for me. I guess thats why it has a center column. I have the next generation 3542ls, which has no center column and is just about the right hight for me when standing, (I'm 5'9"). What I like about not having the center column is that i can spread the legs out flat and get really low to the ground. I also have a 5541ls, which is basically a beefier, longer version of the tripod you got. The only improvement in the 42 series vs the 41 series is a locking mechanism for the top plate was added to the 42 series tripods. I've never had problems with the top plate loosening on my 5541ls, but apparently others have. They are both great, easy to use tripods. Enjoy yours!
Charles as you got it for a steal, consider putting a bit of additional money into it and getting a Markins TH-300. This will make the tripod much more friendly for use on the road. I always hated to heavy wide spider on the 3541LS that I own. The Markins hub lightened the load significantly, and has a smaller diameter top platform that still mated well with my ballheads.
I've got a 3541XLS and, although heavy, it's my go-to tripod. Assuming your legs and locks are in good shape, you got a seriously good deal. You might consider a Gitzo GH3382QD ball head if you don't already have a head.

Thanks, appreciate your and other comments.
As mentioned, the tripod is new condition so cosmetics and works as new. I mounted a gimbal head to this tripod, I have a ball head but prefer the gimbal style. .
As others have said, you got an absolute steal. I have the 3541LS and love it, take it everywhere. It’s easy to clean too. When reassembling just locate the slim notch on the inside of the end of each leg section, as it guides the shims on the section you’re inserting.
