I went on holiday up to Scotland last week to get up close to some wildlife in the Cairngorms. I nearly didn't get to go because of adverse weather hitting the airports but some crazy last minute planning and gambling on a 2nd set of flights paid off. Here are some of my favourite images of the red squirrels including a jumping shot I was just thrilled with.
There aren't many strongholds for red squirrels in the UK still because they're susceptible to diseases carried by other animals and because almost all of their habitat has gone. Slowly there are projects working to recreate forest corridors and help build up those habitats again.
I absolutely loved my time seeing these animals as they're cute, athletic, playful and just amazing to watch. They're also very, very quick which made it a bit challenging at times!
Awesome is an understatement, but *awesome*! I really like squirrels and these pictures are just pure vanilla for my eyes. First one is clearly once in a lifetime shot, these critters are damn hard to shoot.

Thank you! I was so pleased with the first one. The sharpness on the eyes and claws was more than I could have hoped for.

Love the tufts of fur on their ears Phil. One, three, and four are tops to my eyes.
Douglas
Thanks Douglas! Yeah, the tufts are huge in winter when they're having to deal with the snow.

Beautiful images. Love the lighting in all of them. That first one is something special.
These photographs are really beautiful, well composed and expertly processed. I never thought I'd see a RSIF (Red Squirrel In Flight) thread.
Thanks
Tom
Thanks Tom for the very kind compliments!

Thanks Birdie! I'm steadily figuring out how I like to process wildlife images and it's genuinely really nice to have a couple of you compliment the processing here as well as the composition/subject.
