p.2 #1 · A7III or A7RII? Help Me Decide

thanks for adding to the discussion....I shot a few engagement sittings with the r2 and used continuous mode as couples were running toward me, now this is in good light and found that all the shots were nailed very well...also used eye af indoors in poor house light on my granddaughters and used afc eye af...it nailed focus there too. I have not really seen any better from the r3 in those circumstances. I do however still have a problem with focus on the r3 with the 24-105 lens...the lens is not one of the defective lenses with focus shift,

Oh, I'm right there with you: My A7rII really doesn't leave me wanting all that much from an AF-standpoint. I don't even use continuous modes all that much! Sure, I'll take faster, but it's not what I find myself wanting most of the time (I'd rather have more resolution and DR), and more customizable functionality/buttons. I'd love to keep my camera on 1-shot AF, but assign eye-af to a custom button... that when pressed and held down automatically stays in continuous mode until I let go.

Shutter lag/blackout could be improved. But as someone noted on another thread... I guess the A7rIII is actually worse in this regard (shutter lag)!

Both cameras will be good enough and worthy upgrades from A7ii but A7r3 will be camera you will not have to think about upgrading for next 3-4 years.

One other thing to consider is compatibility with Play Memories apps.
I don't know whether you use smooth reflections, time-lapse, etc., but it doesn't appear the A7III is compatible with those.

I think the best answer is actually BOTH an A7III (for the better AF, bigger battery, and Hybrid Log Gamma 4K video) and an A7RII (higher resolution & Play Memories apps), but that wasn't your question...

Having one button for afs and another for afc eye af would be brilliant...sony we need new firmware.

It's totally a choice between resolution and AF...BUT

The a7r2 is nearly twice the resolution of the a73. I do not think the AF of the a73 is twice as good as that of the a7r2. I can't even say that about the a7r3.

I like big sensors and I cannot lie.

I must have a bad copy of the R3....I guess I will send it back to sony pro to be adjusted.

I just did the new firmware update on my rIII (1.01). I am quite impressed, the af is MUCH snappier now, also seems more accurate...we will see!

I ended up picking up a A7RII used for a great price with 10 batteries and the grip! I have no regrets! this camera is amazing. Even the AF feels snappy compared to my A7II. Loving the continuous Eye-AF... game changer.

Thanks for everyones inputs.
