Hi everyone,

Second time in slovenia and this time lots of snow. Lots. of. it.

I had scouted a nice position up hill and had everything planned. Would start a hike around 0500am, with snow shoes up hill so I would have enough time for my shot.

Then 4 days before I get to Slovenia: snow storm. It basically made it impossible for me to walk to where I planned. The hotel said the risk of avalanche was too high so I had to "improvise" with what I had in hand.

Remember the cool story about me going up hill like a cool, pun intended, crazy Indiana Jones? Nope. Just stepped out of my hotel room basically and waiting for sunrise. The only sunrise I had at my stay, dreadful weather.

Anyway, it was a nice surprise since the sunrise was hitting the slopes on the side giving it nice soft shadows.

I love the dramatic tones and shapes in this photo. I could snowboard those slopes for an eternity and never get bored. Such perfect snow and terrain.

I am surprised there are not more comments on this shot. Sure, it has some human elements, but is still a marvelous landscape photo. One of my favorites to have been posted to this forum in a while.

Edit: It would also work well if the bottom was cropped right above the tallest tree. Provides a tighter composition and with better balance. This shot would be a huge hit on Instagram.

Gorgeous colours in there.
Loved those patterns in the snow, they're making for an impactful mid-ground imo.

@JohanEickmeyer: Oh wow, that is very nice of you for saying this. Yeah it was real fun skiing in this place. Slovenian skiing isn't as fancy or hip as in France or Switzerland but it feels real authentic and cozy. Thank you for the comment a lot.

@twoflower: Thanks for your comment.. I was also lucky because you can see the fog already creeping in to ruin the morning.

Beautiful, the light is great, love the framing (and the trees in the bottom right). The tracks also contribute very nicely. Two thumbs up!

Certainly a wall hanger! I like the lighting and that the eye is
drawn deep into the image. Excellent in all aspects.
