I bought one from a fellow member here. Should arrive tomorrow. Thanks. Yosuke Yamamot wrote:
I got on a back order list at my local store in Portland, OR. 9 days later I got a call stating that the lens had arrived and that they would hold it for a week for me. Seems faster and better to get a wait list rather than hoping to catch a vendor with extra inventory.

Bought one and an A7iii for my research group. Delivery can take a few weeks, though.
When we photograph weddings, I prefer primes, but the PhD students prefer to use a zoom to document their work. I think the Tamron to be excellent value for the money.

Since you asked nicely Fred...
I've since sold the lens. Really liked it, but just not a zoom guy. Anyway, took it on a Family Vacation to Charleston, SC. Don't really post shots of my family, but got plenty of work otherwise and handled things quite well. I had the VM 40/1.2 and Contax G 21mm with me as well, but the zoom saw about 95% of the work...

28 mm seems the best focal length of this Tammy, and the most interesting to me. Through some comparisons I've seen it also seems that it exceeds the Sony 28 f/2 in terms of global sharpness. But, what about a better landscape 28 mm lens like the SMC Pentax 28mm 3.5 K? Could someone compare the Tammy at 28 to the Pentax?

It is sharpest at 28mm, though for landscape use, it's quite sharp across the frame stopped down at all focal lengths. I used the lens a lot over the weekend, and it really does shine as a landscape lens.

Thanks Jordan. As you are a "fan" of the Sony 28 f/2, in your opinion how does the Tammy at 28 mm compare to the Sony?
Also, I've read from Dustin Abbot that the Sony 24-105 has not as much microcontrast as the Tamron (and the 24-70 GM to with he compares the Tamron). What's your thought about?.
Again, thank you.

Well, I don't own the CV 40/1.2 (yet), so I can't directly compare. In my time reviewing it, I think that they are pretty comparable stopped down, though there are certain rendering things the CV is nicer at, and sunstare are better there as well.
As to the 28mm (am I a fan? I mean, it's a good lens for the price)...I think the Tamron is sharper in the corners stopped down.

Jordan, I edited my previous post before reading your answer. Would you be so kind of telling me your opinion microcontrast of Tamron vs Sony 24-105?.
Thanks

Here are some I took at the recent trip to Asian, I am really glad I got the lens right before the trip, it's so versatile, I used it for portraits, landscape and family reunion, so sharp and quick to focus, no complain

Has anyone compared the Tammy to the Sony 24-105 in terms of micro contrast / 3D Pop?
Dustin Abbott, who compares the Tamron to the Sony 24-70 GM , says: "The 24-105 has a pretty even sharpness profile (a little better in the corners than the Tamron), but it doesn't have nearly the amount of contrast and punch as either of these lenses". Also it is known that an f/2.8 lens may have more micro contrast (more probability) than a f/4.0 has.

After updating my Tamron to ver 2 firmware nothing changed. It have problems with AF-S @75 mm on my A7r3- it front focuses a little. In AF-C mode it's razor sharp. Maybe it's just my copy of the lens - I'm waiting for another copy to check this out.

I was thinking... It would be really great if Fred (or someone quite as much skilled) would make a comparison of the Tammy with very good primes, similar to the one that Fred Miranda made for the Sony 24-105 (https://www.fredmiranda.com/forum/topic/1498758/0), this time @ 28, 35, 50 and 70-75 mm.
Alternatively, a comparison with the Sony 24-105 would indirectly work as such and also would be interesting by itself.
