I was on the fence and planned to wait for more reviews, but out of the blue last night Kenmore Camera listed two for sale on eBay. I couldn't resist and grabbed one. No preorder waiting.
Looking forward to testing it against the 24-105. Probably will only keep one or the other. It will have to be darn good, because I really adore the 24-105.

Samples look good, agree it's better than the 24-70 into the corners, and I never hated that lens either. I'm liking the close focus ability too. I think I'll be happy with this if mine matches Juha's.

I added 24 low light / city lights samples taken in the evening in Ebisu to the same album. They are also SOOC JPEGs, this time at ISO640.

I'm always looking forward to your initial samples Juha! You always manage to get lenses before anyone else.
Thanks very much Fred! It helps to be in Tokyo as we tend to get at least the Japanese makers' lenses in the first wave and sometimes a bit earlier than other markets I also tend to pre-book most of the lenses I buy so I can get them on release day.

Thanks Juha for the variety of samples and focals you shot (cityscapes, flower close-ups, night scenes), very useful (although I've already pre-ordered it and I've no doubt - based on recent Tamron track records like their 35mm & 85mm f1.8 and 70-200 2.8 G2 SLR lenses) that this has the potential to be a great zoom (at least, this would be useful and would push Sony to potentially adjust its prices for similar focal lengths).
I really like the "close-up" capabilities and the background blur / bokeh (at least on the tele zoom end as it looks a bit harsher at 28mm) on the flower shots (that's something Tamron has been communicating on as far as i can recall).
Considering that 28mm seems the "weeker end" of the zoom (based on various reports and MTF), you seem to have a great sample (looking at the various cityscapes and night scenes at this focal...) :-) or this zoom is already pretty good at this focal.

Thanks very much! Yeah, I'm very happy with my copy, not sure how it compares to the average copies since it's the only one I've tried, but it seems well centered and I can get good results at all focal lengths without any special effort. I'm also very happy with results on 28mm and I had expected the lens to be slightly weaker there based on the early reviews. I did notice that the corners are not quite optimal if shot wide open at 28mm at very long distances (as expected), but they clean up nicely when stopping down a bit, so it works fine for me.
I'm expecting to use this lens quite a lot as a general walkaround lens and for travel, as it covers a lot of ground. I haven't had any Tamron lenses recently (only had one Tamron super zoom for Canon some 15-20 years ago), but this one definitely gives me confidence to go for their future e-mount lenses as well (e.g. at least could use a 70-200/2.8 equivalent).

Not seeing any stock in the UK yet which is a little annoying!
Looks pretty good from the samples - would prefer 24mm but the 24-105 is non-existent just now and the 24-70 as good as it is is just too dear.

Folks I would go to Tamron site and look up there dealer list. B&H is not always the answer. They may have dealers that maybe more popular in sales for Tamron. I would certainly look into this

I think the lens works well for this type of shooting as well.
Hey! I recognize that footbridge, crossed it a couple times when I was in Tokyo last year. Tokyo is a photo dream location, endlessly interesting things to shoot and more camera shops than probably any city in the world.

Didn't have time to test it well yet. Just made few quick shoots. (MF/AF on the corners and center at different FL, on tripod).
Will test more later.
BTW, there is also problem with AF in AF-C, when focus point is at right/left-most position you can move with joystick, it is unable to obtain focus and keeps hunting. Tested outside, a lot of light, A7RIII.
