AF, they know it's a hot button issue:
'RXD (Rapid eXtra-silent stepping Drive) autofocus motor delivers impressively quiet, quick, and smooth focusing performance to suit both stills and video applications. This focusing system also offers a minimum focusing distance of just 7.5" for working with close-up subjects, affords full-time manual focus override, and it is compatible with Sony's Direct Manual Focus function or fine-tuned manual focus control.'
Thanks for posting the larger samples.
Now don't laugh. I'm depth challenged....the yellow shows (with light stars significant
in the image). Are those shoes real size or super sized?
Im thinking that might be one image where they are showing close focus ability?

Real shoes, they are showing off the close focus. Must be stopped down quite a bit to have the background that much in focus however

Now SAR says it will be $799 in the good old USA...
If that's the case I'll probably preorder it. That $700-800 range is the sweetspot for a walkabout IMO. I want good performance, but don't expect prime performance. Really just hoping for the FF equivalent of the Panasonic 12-35mm f/2.8 I used to use.

@GMPhotogrpahy, I just had a thought. Can I pre-order your used copy for when you decide you’ll stick with the 24-105 and a prime for AF?
Yes be happy to sell you the 24-105 I have a good one and a good serial number. What I’ll probaly do is get the Tammy 28-75 and grab another Sony 85 1.8
What this will do for me as far as my AF kit is give me 28-75, 50 1.8 I got today, sony 85 1.8 and my Batis 135. I’ll also throw in a Loxia 25 in the bag as a touch wider and a backup. That’s all I really need to do event stuff.
Matt if you want to pre order the Tammy than we will trade. Only if you want too as it maybe faster this way. I may not be fast enough to grab the Tammy on pre order right now. I just put out about 3 grand fixing my cool deck, pool and all new cushions for the backyard. This household stuff is killing my gear budget. Luckily I did the work otherwise maybe 8 grand. I want to rent. Lol

@GMphotography pretty sure he means that after you get the Tamron, and decide to sell it, keeping your 24-105, he wants to buy the Tamron used from you

Ha, yea I want the 28-75 as well, it’s a perfect focal length, close focus is nice and 2.8 is fast enough for the light I shoot in. If it’s decent enough to put your subject anywhere in the frame at 2.8 I’m in. If it’s 799 I’ll pre-order but if it’s more I’ll probably wait and get a used copy.

Well this is the first truly e-mount with eye-AF built from the ground up....not something glued to the bottom of a Sigma (mc adapter). I think I'm in just to show my support to Tamron.

Keep in mind by all accounts, Tamron builds the Batis line of lenses for Zeiss, and they built the 180200 lens for the original APS-C line, so AF should be pretty solid, though maybe not as good as Sony's absolute best. They've said it'll support Eye-AF etc. It'll still meet my needs I suspect.
Ah yes, I had heard that about the Batis lenses. Sounds promising. Looks like I’ll be able to pick this up with minimal expenditure after unloading my Tammy 24-70. I’ll miss the wide end a bit, but it should be worth it if IQ and AF are good.

I will buy one as soon as I can get to
- show my recognicion for offering third party native-like lenses
- show my recognicion for reducing lens size by intelligent compromises (like reducing the short end by 4mm)
- finally get a decent performing (at least I hope so) and sufficiently bright standard zoom lens that isn't as large as a brick (for family travel photography)
- write a rolling review for www.phillipreeve.net
