I've wanted to do this shot of my kids for a few years now, and finally got it done! Each child was photographed individually with my Sigma 50mm art lens and then I combined them when I was finished. Lighting was good old natural light from a north facing bedroom window. I'll definitely be printing this one big for my wall! I consider it an heirloom portrait that their children, grandchildren, and beyond will enjoy looking at someday.
I did this exact same thing 2 years ago with my kids, I would have said you stole the idea from me but I'm sure there's no way you would have seen it, lol... plus I think I got the idea from seeing that style another place, it's actually been done quite a bit.
Anyway, well done and I'm sure your family will cherish a big print (I would suggest a metal print) generations.
When I was researching this style for my family portrait 2 years ago, many samples of this showed a lot of halos and issues blending the images seamlessly.
Googling "Side Lighting Family Portraits" will show you many samples of this style
My own version took many takes to get to my level of satisfaction (and I was only using 4 people and a dog).
Lisa's is right up there with the best I have seen of this exact type of family photo.
Thank you guys! Funny that you mentioned a dog, Greg. I shot these using the window light in my girls’ bedroom. Our cat was in the window sill the entire time. You can see her in several of the original images. While I was waiting on the next kiddo, I sat her on the box I was using and got one of her too. I need to edit it, it’s actually pretty cool!
I ordered this as a 30x60 non-glare acrylic with a metallic finish last night. I cannot wait to get it!

Very cool. Make sure you take a shot of this hanging in your home and post it here. It is great to see images in their desired resting place.
That is fabulous. It'll really pop as a metallic print. Any plans to reprise the series every two years or so? What a remarkable thing it would be to have a version of this every couple of years as the kids grow up.
A truly wonderful tribute to your beautiful family.
This photo makes me stop to take the time to look at each face. It's mesmerizing in a very good way. If you were to put the metal print on the wall in my house, I would stare at it for half the day.
I'm also curious to see the photo of the cat. I really want to see the cat ha.
Your work is very inspirational! I've alway enjoyed how you've shared your family with us. I've been wanting to do this with my family. However, everyone is spread out, and its just so hard to get everyone home at the same time. Enjoy them while there're still home. Before you know it they've moved on. Thanks for sharing
