KD,
Each one is better than the other. Exceptional series.
You surely had a splendid time. Where exactly were you in CR?
~Mansur
thanks so much Mansur. It was amazing. we were shooting 8-12 hours a day, since the rain forest allows for diffused light. We shot in 7-8 different locations, from lowland rain forests to the volcano area to the cloud forests and the mountains and the coast. in short, everywhere

Not sure if I’ve ever seen so much quality from one trip ever. It is actually hard to believe this was all from only 10 days. Brilliant and another well earned vote from me! And I'm sure a few are happy you took a few weeks off to give some others a chance to win TOW
Eric
thanks so much for the constant support and feedback. really CR is a place where you cannot miss. the rain adds to the saturated colors. I still have some more that will need another image heavy post
A few of those are really record shots to keep as they are lifers for 1'st time, such as a Bat falcon, chachalaca, etc. IQ is not good but the memories are awesome.

Stunning sets. Splendid subjects, brilliant execution. It looks like you used a small amount of flash, is that so?
Hi Tim, thanks for stopping by, I used a single flash for the frogs snakes and multi synch flash bats and some hummers, but not for the other birds including some hummers. Most other places do not allow the use of flash.

Not much to add to what has already been said, although I will say that there's a handful of species here that I have not seen during a handful of trips to Costa Rica.
Terrific, KD!
Greg
P.S. 38 is a female Scarlet Tanager; also the back bird in 7 is a male Green Honeycreeper
thanks so much Greg for the comments and the correction for the ID.
We were very lucky and were able to see so many species that I could not even remember the names. Had to buy a book and try and figure it or email Supreet for help.
Looking forward to shooting with you hopefully soon

Very nice set.
Just curious to know if these are from one location? I have heard folks spend quite a bit of time in a hide and the variety of species depends on the location.
Thanks Golfnphotog, for viewing and commenting. these are from multiple locations, nearly 8 to be precise. Not that I am an expert on CR, but you may be probably right about the species accessibility depending on the time of the year.

Magnificent Set!
The variety is amazing, the colors, BG's, sharpness, detail all excellent, and then you add little killer features like the tongue of the bat, for one example.
I am curious about the EXIF on these.
Scott
Thanks so much Scott for viewing and commenting. I will try to post the exif next time around, let me figure out how. Please PM with the picture @ and I'll send you the exif.

Amazing series, love them all! Where were you staying/shooting? Were these all from one location? Thanks!

thanks so much Frank for viewing and commenting. We were in many different locations both staying and shooting,
lowland, rain forest, volcano area, cloud forest, pacific coast, etc.

KD, you meant excellent image heavy, right? I enjoy looking at them all but I do love the bat images as my chance of seeing that on my next trip to CR is slim to none... . You didn't spend a month over there, did you?
Thank you for sharing,
Joshua
thanks so much for viewing and commenting. Sorry to hear about the Bat pictures. No I did not spend a month there, but I did more shooting there in 10 days than I do here in the US in probably 5-6 months. We should probably do a trip together sometime in future. All the best with your trip and I am sure you will come back with loads of amazing pictures.

Another amazing set, KD. Red headed barbet is my favorite (cuz I never got one on my trips to CR), and seeing the aggressive hummer with a rival's feathers in his mouth - that's a unique shot! You did great with rain and difficult light. Just a wonderful group of images. Congrats!
Jim
thanks so much for viewing and commenting. The red headed barbet looks so much like the Angry Bird (video game) and the hummers were actually aggressive to us as well, would buzz in and hover around our face and then back off. what a brilliant display of flying.

This is an outrageously wonderful set of images KD
You did a great job shooting in the rain and somehow at slower shutter speeds most of the droplets are not hindering the images.
#40 IMO could use a little work on pulling back the highlights to bring out even more tonal range in the cheeks and the bill and a bit more depth into the darks. I absolutely love the colors
#41 perhaps a different crop in horizontal?
#39 is a sweet crop
#34 is stunning!
#33 nice handling of the back/side lighting, nice dimensional feel in this shot
#16 is super terrific
#26 for me could be one flower shorter and a tighter crop in from the right but I will tell you it stopped me as I scrolled through, wonderful concept on the crop and a very unique image presentation, nice
#12 excellent use of the branch and nice placement of the subject
#4 not sure that comp works?
#3 Love comp and pose and color and BG, excellent!
#1 your opening shot hooked me good KD, I have scrolled through these numerous times for enjoyment, you did an amazing job on the photography and processing and presentation
Another vote for you sir.........

Hi Karl,
Thanks so much for the detailed C&C. Here are some of the shots reprocessed based on your feedback. Please let me know what you think. thanks for the vote. Really, really appreciate the suggestions
My only nit is that you did not invite me to join.
Voted.
Jeff
thanks so much for your comment and support Jeff. I cannot wait to shoot with you. Let us coordinate a trip together.

thanks so much Tony really appreciate it. CR was fun
These are all spectacular ! The Baltimore Oriole is especially perfect ! The IQ, the pose, the composition, the perch, the colors, the radiating fronds in the background. Just beautiful.
Such excellent results, I'm new and would like to know what type of setup you are using ie what telephoto and are you choosing your own hyde or do you use a guide?
Awesome, as all others you have posted so far! In 10 days, it is almost unthinkable how many different birds you have had a chance to take photos of at such great locations/backgrounds. May I ask you how many photos in total have you done? I need to prepare my gear/cards for 30 days in July

hi Shutterfreak, thanks for stopping by. I used a Canon 5Dmk4 with a 500 mm ver 2 prime lense, with and without 1.4x teleconverter and canon 5d mark 3 with 100-400 mm lense, 100 mm macro and 70-200 mm for various multi synch flash work.Only one place had a hide for the king vultures and the rest were in the open or on occasionally on viewing platforms. Our tour guide had arranged for guides at all the locations, so that we could find these birds, especially if we were looking for a specific species.

thanks xelas - I took approximately 12,000 shots all told. A lot of them had to be deleted or discarded, since the light was either too low or too harsh ( in the open). I carried approx 700 GBs in different cards. However I would download each night all of that day's pictures on to my laptop and an external hard drive. Hope that helps.
xelas wrote:
It surely helps; bringing portable HD for backup is obligatory.
it is critical, in case something does go wrong and also if you do not plan to carry too many cards
