Update: Even though I ordered this Wednesday night, B&H didn't get it shipped out until today/Friday. So – I'll have to wait until Monday to get it.

Not gonna lie, I am sort of jealous. I remeber reading about this years back.
I’d love to shoot one but no way my cheap ass would buy one hahahha
I dont think I'm a cheapskate at all when it comes to lenses but I have a very hard time to imagine what a lens would have to have a performance to be *this* extremely valueable to me.

That was kinda my point, unless you are a collector or buying for resale value I can’t see it.
For photographic purposes the 14mm 2.8 would suffice, “for me”.
I like shooting my manual focus glass at times but not that much!!
If I had one I’d shoot with it a few times and put it on my display shelf with my other old stuff where it would sit.

We all agree... but would spending 8499 to get you 20K or more help you imagine

So then why put it down? Why buy a Noct when a 55/1.2 will get you almost the same results at a tenth of the cost? For many, exclusivity trumps performance, and they are willing to pay that premium. The buyer seems to have bought this as an investment. Even if he flips it as soon as he gets it, he will be getting a monster profit. Lenses like this one are so rare that even if their performance is marginal at best, prices are bordering on ridiculous. Exclusivity commands big bucks.

True but thats not a photographic argument.

I'm more concerned with why buy an AI 58mm f1.2 "NOCT" if I can get a Voigtländer 58mm f1.4 which is even better build, optically awesome, and just stupid cheap in comparison.

Stupid cheap and stupid expensive are often opposite sides of the same coin.
But seriously, why be "concerned" with what someone else will buy? I'm pretty sure people who buy the NOCT are going in eyes wide open and are not going to suddenly find out about the Voigt and collapse into tears.
