How disappointing. I hope your dealer will be able to provide a replacement quickly.
Interestingly, this is the first serial number in the 182XXXX range that I've seen reported with the problem. Earlier it seemed that this new group of numbers had the fix incorporated at the factory. Hopefully this is just an isolated glitch.

I have ordered one, and has asked my dealer that i will only accept the lens if the serial number clears the Sony recall test.
Is this a good way to ensure I don’t get a lemon?

Bought billphoto's returned lens (1814480) from the B&H used store for $1100, sent to Precision Camera for repair/firmware upgrade... focuses correctly now. 6 day turn-around time and Sony paid for 2nd day air shipping to/from.

Mine has serial # 1826425
It doesn't have the focus shift issue, BUT it's really badly decentered at all focal lengths. The fantastic Sony QC as usual...

I've got 1827789, which Sony claims is fine, and it's got some horrible AF problem that I just noticed last week. At 24mm f/8, in one shot, nothing in the frame (1m to infinity) is in focus.
