p.1 #1 · Girlfriend at Blackwater Falls

Me and my girlfriend went to Blackwater Falls State Park in Davis, WV on a cloudy/misty day. Shot with Fujifilm XT-2. Any critique greatly appreciated!

Nice capture. I'm afraid I can't offer much critique. Nice composition and pretty colors.

Welcome Edwin! To my eye, the sky portion is distracting. I would probably crop either to the horizon or more likely to the end of the stream as you see it. Might have had her raise her cap on her forehead so that it doesn't encroach so much on her eyes and have her get her hair out of her mouth or off her face.

I like the pose and her winning smile. I’m with douter but even more so. You have to decide if you’re taking a scenery shot or a people shot. Otherwise one or both get compromised. I’d crop way in to your girlfriend with the out of focus water behind her.

First things: The subject and the scenic are both beautiful. Love the colors.

I wonder if you could consider this: It makes me feel nervous to look at her seeming like she is so close to the edge - even though she might not actually be. I wonder if she was positioned completely facing the camera and appeared further away from the edge?

The second thing is that I think I would rather that the entire frame was in focus rather than selective focus on her.

Did you do some variations of this shot - different apertures, poses?

Agree with some of the above comments. Getting the scene in focus too would be better.

I probably would have tried a shot with the camera about 2 - 3 ft lower. That would have made her more prominent in the photo and still captured most of the valley. In addition, it would have placed her head in a more natural position for the shot.
