I would have to dispute this. This is why I posted a 99s second exposure up above with my light travel tripod, the Sirui 1204-X and the tiny Sirui G10X ballhead.
If you have calm conditions you can get away with some long exposures. I do a lot of hiking on vacation so I experience variable weather conditions where you do need forethought and protection. I use long spikes in moving water, rock claws in higher elevations and have a wide gate carabiner but don't like the time it takes to hang bags or rocks. The kludgy bungee cord below that I cobbled together is very handy in gusty conditions and doesn't occupy a lot of room in the backpack. Works well and it's much quicker than hanging stuff too.
Those cows on vacation in Connemara below are nicely sheltered from the Atlantic but I was up higher and in the wind. I've been very happy with my own travel tripod which was a 2-series but occasionally it wasn't up to the task despite me spending time trying to find a suitable location with some protection from the elements. Which is why I've ended up with a lightweight equivalent of a series-3 systematic and with it I'm hoping I have everything covered.

I'm going to be giving the MeFoto Roadtrip (carbon fiber variant) a try myself. Due to circumstances outside my control, I had to leave my regular tripod (which is also a travel tripod, a 3LT Brian) back in Qatar where I was deployed, and my FLM beast of a tripod isn't due to ship for another month from the Indiegogo campaign, and in a few weeks I'll be leaving for Tokyo and Hong Kong. Since I may not get my stuff from Qatar back in time, I figure I'll just use the MeFoto tripod for a month, and then sell it when I get back. Should work just fine for my D800 and 2.8 trinity/24mm PC-E kit for cityscape work.
The way I look at it, the MeFoto tripods have a good enough reputation that I feel confident I can re-sell it without too much of a loss, and at the same time they're not overly expensive.

I'm thinking about a Three-Legged-Thing. Perhaps Corey or Vyv (discontinued). Anyone using them? Looking at some video reviews...promising except for one Northrup video (that actually seems quite unprofessional...especially
the sophomoric part at the end...I like some of his stuff).
Anyway...thoughts?

I just got it for Christmas, but so far I've been really impressed with the Feisol 3401 tripod, which I plan to use for travel. It folds to under 19", weights just 2.6 lbs., and is very stable for its size/weight. It's not very tall at just over 50", but I have it paired with a levelling base that adds an extra 2". There is also an optional center column.

I ended up finding a Sirui T2205x used at B&H. I have one of their monopods and it's very nicely made and functions well. I'm looking forward to trying out this one.
