Just curious - how would WB be affected if I accepted what appeared using Auto WB as per standard, and then tuned it to suit in post-processing software? Is it really off and does it have an impact on performance?

The Sony in-camera WB tweak tool is quite powerful, impacting both JPEG and RAW files. With a UT converted camera, it's crucial to get the white balance as optimal as possible in-camera. The Lightroom "As Shot" WB setting will display the image with the tweaked changes in temperature and tint. However, using Lightroom's presets like Daylight, Cloudy, Shade, etc... will yield incorrect results because Adobe assumes the stock Sony sensor output.

In essence, the new cover glass is much thinner but does not match the original Sony sensor cover glass in terms of temperature and tint. While it does not affect individual color output since it's just a "cast," simply tweaking the white balance in the camera effectively addresses this issue.
