Fantastic photograph, Fred. The light in there is just amazing.
Love the details in there. Also I loved how well you controlled the dynamic ranging, while also maintaining the natural look and feel of the photograph.

There are nice elements in the photo but I find the composition off. Too much of the main features on the very edges and I feel the valley is cut off at a strange spot.

Great capture. Love the range of color here.
Just the right comp with the icons holding up their ends

Super colors and interesting comp. You usually do not use that focal length there. A new look from you!

Thanks for your comment. I wanted to show more texture and detail from El Capitan and that's why I used a long focal length. To improve the shadows, I took 5 consecutive images and averaged them in Photoshop.
Best,
Fred

I get the same feeling too but we all know this scene so well. I wanted to make it about El Capitan's texture and color as a main focal post and let the sky lead to Half Dome. It's just an alt composition I've never seen before and I knew it would not work for everyone. I just wanted to share it.
Best,
Fred

I'm glad you liked it Dan. The sky was magnificent that afternoon and I also capture this scene at wider focal lengths. (Under dusk colors)
This one was handheld as I got to the location at bit late from my hike.
Take care,
Fred

Beautiful!! I love the great light and your choice of comp. The tight view really works well here.

Yummy image! Great job on this Fred. I do wonder about the look of the cloud color. Looks a little different, not sure about the rendering choice. Still beautiful for sure.

Fred

My attention is grabbed and held at El Cap. I don't feel led or moved into the Cloud's Rest background. There's also a hyper sharpened and hyper contrast and hyper colored look to the photo. ( I don't buy the argument this is what the file or scene looked like, and not that you're making that argument). The white line coming out of the Heart on the Salathe Wall illustrates what I'm talking about. While making prints at John Wawrzonek's two weeks ago he looked at one of my files and remarked, "looks over worked Claude". And having spent many decades watching this amazing scene it does not feel literal or believable. Looks overworked and postcardy.

Interesting detail of the rockfall near the East Buttress of El Cap.

Claude
