p.1 #1 · Crumpler backpack is great!

I got a half laptop/half camera backpack from Crumpler - Farmer's Double.
It's amazing! Very well protected and I can fit the following in the bottom half:
20d with 50 f1.4, 24-70 f2.8L and 70-200 f4L. Fits great on my back. Quite
heavy with a Powerbook inside, but great weight distribution.

Andrew,

I'm a big fan of Crumpler's bags and have been using their messenger bags w/ photo inserts for quite some time.

Any chance you could take a photo of how the gear fits into your bag?

Thanks.

Best thing about Crumpler is that it's an AUSTRALIAN company

I have a Brians Hot Tub and a Farmers Double. I also use a messanger bag when I go cycling. I love these bags because they look like an ordinary backpack and not a camera bag at all.

Somebody sent me a PM requesting pictures. This is a Crumpler Brians Hottub.

The pictures are pretty self-explanatory. Missing from the pic: my 20D+BGE2 and 50/1.4 lens and spare 550EX flash (used to take the pic). There is enough space in there to fit ALL the gear in my signature if I wanted to although it would be getting pretty heavy.

It is not easy to access gear on the move. The zip is located at the rear of the backpack, snugged up against your back. This stops people from unzipping your bag and removing your stuff without you knowing, but it means you have to take your backpack off to get at your gear.

There is a strap on the side for you to attach a tripod, but it's not very good. My Gitzo 1227 + Acratech head keeps on slipping down. I have been meaning to rig up a velcro "drawstring" to keep the tripod attached firmly.

This is more bag than I need. It carries so much gear that I get tired lugging the thing around. Often I leave stuff at home or in the car to reduce the weight a little.

I also have the Brian's Hot Tub and it's wonderful. I need a smaller messenger (fast access) bag to carry around when all I want is a single body, two lenses and maybe a flash. It'll be a Crumpler bag for sure!

I got a few more requests for more pictures. Here they are:

And yes, my 20D, with 24-70/2.8L, BGE2, EPEX15, and Kirk L-plate attached, can fit into the space. I can't show it to you because I need my camera to shoot the picture!

To the other poster: that is how the tripod strap works. Not the most elegant solution because you have to wiggle the tripod a bit to get it to come out.

Crumpler bags are very nice. I've seen the Farmer's Double at the local store and it's worthy. I own a Love 15 myself. I originally ordered another model but I had to send it back because it was too small. Word to the wise: Crumpler's measurements are optomistic.

I would add that Crumpler bags are too well made, if there is such a thing. Don't get me wrong here, they are great bags. But between the fabric (which appears to be tough enough to withstand WWIII) and their stitching (which is super tight), the bag can be tough to operate. Small compartments can be hard to open. No fear of it ever falling apart, though! I may send my bag thru the wash cycle with something to soften it up a bit.

Overall I'm one happy Crumpler customer and will be the proud owner of multiple Crumpler bags here before long.

Oh yeah, I agree--their website is good!
