p.1 #1 · Went to Yellowstone looking for wolves.....

Went looking for wolves. Did see 13 members of the molly pack on the far side of the Lamar valley. They were just too far away. So, took a few shots of the other inhabitants - including these two:

Thanks for having a look.

Hi Henrik...

As others have said, this is an incredible photograph. According to the EXIF it was taken at 148 mm. That's scary close to these critters. I'd be interested (if you'd like to share) in learning a little about the back story on how you were able to capture this wonderful moment.

Voted as well.

Voted, too. And I am with Tom, when I saw the EXIF data it was shocking. Are you in an armored vehicle? How did you achieve this? I was at the zoo in Pittsburgh once, when a buffalo standing next to the fence quickly swung his head...sounded like thunder...man, they are strong and quick.

Were you using a 70-200 or 100-400? I'm looking to get something lighter to pair with the 400/2.8 for when I hike.

Thank you. When the opportunity presented itself, it was a no brainer - which is good for me.

Sure, don't mind sharing at all. I walked 5 miles uphill, there and back (uphill both ways). Brought 200 pounds of gear and had to hack my way through thick bush and over 20ft of snow.

Ok, ok, so that might not be exactly right. Truth be told, they came close to the road. I saw the knoll and was hoping they'd walked right up on top of it...and they did. Good light so I could shoot at f8. Also cropped a bit - I was not as close as it might appear. Safety not compromised at any time for them or me.

Thanks for commenting.

Thanks. And yes, they are deceptively fast given their size. Please see post above for additional commentary.

Thank you.

100-400. Sharp, fairly light and incredibly versatile.

Yeah I'm debating the Sigma or Tamron as I'm a Nikon shooter. In Colorado, I think the 100 end outweighs the need for the 500 end of the Nikon 200-500/5.6.
