Good enough for me. Not a focal length I use often, but will do for 'what if'.
I put the small focus square on the left edge of the big red ornament. Slightly windy out
so used shake-reduction in PScc to try to help a bit.

I don't care that you made a great image with this lens. I wanna see test charts that show it is a poor performer. All kidding aside, very well done.
I currently skip the A7RIII and keep the A7RII for the moment with the 16-35mm G-Master, 35mm Zeiss 2.8, 50mm Zeiss 1.4 and the 85mm G-Master. For some casual events I am looking for a nice All-round zoom. With Nikon and Canon I was always quite happy with the 24-120/24-105 f4 zooms.
Actually I had the 24-70 G-Master (Happy with the results but too front-heavy - the 16-35 G-Master is much better to handle BTW) and the 24-70mm Zeiss (Weight OK but not happy with the corners)
Do you guys think this new baby will exactly be the one matching for my needs under consideration of my current lenses? On the first look it seems so. Not sure if it can hold concerning colors and contrast with the other candidates. Sharpness should be not an issue what I saw...
well, to me yes! I had the 16-35mm F4 (probably not a stellar copy) which I sold, seeing the 24-105 F4 performing better, though with much higher distortion at 24mm. I went for the 12-24mm F4 to have a 2 lenses combo for traveling...and I am quite happy Still your primes will not be obsolete, as you have great ones.
Mirror - I posted a few images a couple of times on Page 2564 FE images thread - just grabs a day or two after getting it.
I am happy so far but not been out much over last few days. I too had 16-35 f4 - a good copy I think but it went after I got the 12-24 which I love. For what I do the 12-24 plus 24-105 covers a lot. I still keep a few legacy MF primes - mostly Contax and the Contax 35-70 because I love those too.
Just shot an event with this. Excellent sharpness and contrast, but the zoom ring is a bit stiff. No chance at smooth adjustments. A bit slow to focus on the a7II, so don't expect to do any fast action. I have another two weeks with it and render my verdict if I will buy or pass.
I received my 24-105 Monday and have been checking it against some of the other lenses I have, The FE16-35/4, the FE 35/2.8, the FE85/1.8, and the C/Y 35-70, as well as a brick wall. Nothing scientific, but it holds up very well against every one of these lenses. The 16-35 was slightly better at 24mm, but it was almost too close to call. The 24-105 outperforms the 35 and 85 at comparable f-stops. Most shots were from my backyard at infinity. Right now work is keeping me very busy, so I don't have time to put together 100 per cent clips, but here are four examples.
Here is an example of where it was bone cold, the trail down snowy/icy and me not wanting to carry but a minimum, plus not knowing what FL I'd want once there. So I carried two lenses. The 24-105 and the 12-24. This from the 24-105. It was very windy down in the gorge, almost two windy for my little Surui carbon-
My copy arrived today from Amazon. Hopefully I'll get a chance to do some testing soon. Work and a weather forecast of snow and rain for the foreseeable future may make it a challenge tho. First impression is that it's a reasonable size and weight compared with the 24-70 f/4.
Anyone done side compares of this lens vs the Sigma version for canon or the Canon L m II version?
Wondering how they all compare as i already have the MC-11 adapter and both those other lenses can be picked up for 700-850, versus the 1300 of this new sony.
The ~ $500 savings could be another lens for my kit (28 f2, 35 f2.8, money towards 12-24 or 16-35.. or a ad200 flash kit)
I'm surprised there aren't more reviews and video's on the new Sony 24-105. Even user examples are very limited.
I already have a great Sigma for Nikon and the nice Canon with Sigma adapter for Sony, so not a high priority for me. Is that the case with most other people?
I can say with experience; this is an interesting approach by Sony and a compromise resulting in a lens I'm quite happy with. The sharpness consistency remains across the frame and throughout the zoom range. Yes, there is (in my copy) ever so slight vignetting at 24mm, corrected automatically in LR CC. The size/weight/versatility/sharpness make up for the vignetting and pincushion which are quickly and easily remedied with a lens profile. For me, Sony made the right decisions and compromises for a lens in this class. The price is too high is my only complaint but not so high I didn't buy one, so their price elasticity model must be correct
