Thank you Fred for the suggestion of using the Leica EL PRO 4 for close up work. Definitely improves the performance of the lens with this type of usage.

Is the SE version of the lens as good optically? It's considerably smaller and lighter. Thinking of buying one.
I have the SE version, and it was my favourite lens until recently when my 40-50mm range got very crowded. Now I am not so sure anymore.
But it is said that both CV Noktons 40/1.2 have the same optical formula, only differences being physical appearance and weight. Also the SE version being "stills edition", does not have a de-clickable aperture. And it was discontinued, as opposite with the original version, which is still in production.
I just recently learnt that Nikon Zf has this focus confirmation feature that works with chipped lens.
So for example having that 40/1.2 Z on that Nikon will make manual focusing such a joy that I can't imagine why Sony has no implemented anything like that so far.
I'm seriously would sell my a7c now and get Zf, if it wasn't that expensive. As soon as it goes down to like £1700, or I find used one in 6 months, I'm jumping over the fence!
Geeeshhhh...the 286 pages of this thread have got me all twisted up!
So now I'm thinking this is one that I really, really need and am considering selling (trading?) my CV 75/1.5 Nokton to pick one up. I own a 21/1.4 Nokton, the 35, 65 and 110 APO's but this 40/1.2 has got my GAS going again.
