I've used the VM version a lot lately on the Techart adapter. AF is not perfect like native lenses, but the combination of f1.2 and how small it is makes it worth it. I have the 35GM but the CV40 comes in my travel bag. These two are shot at small apertures of course though
I guess you can use a standard zoom to answer your question
Anyway, a pictures taken with a 43 mm lens can be cropped to get the same field of view as a 49 mm lens.
P.S.: where did you get actual focal lengths? thanx.
I use VM 35APO and VM 50/1.2 and I think that this lens has sense.
Actual focal lengths you can find od cosina page https://www.cosina.co.jp/
there is an angle of view of each lens

So, if I'm following the recent conversation correctly, it is approximately 41 and 49 FL respectively, so it does make sense to have both.
I already have the 50 1.2 and I'm debating getting the 40. I know I can crop the 40 to make 50 but since I'm not going to get rid of the 50, I wonder how close in FOV are they really.
So far, I am finding rendering of highlights / specular light is one thing I need a bit more attention to with this lens. It may be the nature of 1.2 aspect. I could still easily recover highligts, so not really an issue. I also is not definitive, I need to shoot much more with different conditions / setups to know if it is the characteristic of the lens or, it is something else. Love the color it produces.

I rounded FL to the second significant figure. The decimal has no sense. Actually, lens manufactures never give FLs with a decimal figure
