There should be no noise. I recently bought the 35 1.2 SE and there is no noise when using the focus ring.
The other day I noticed at least a couple of this lens for sale in the Buy & Sale section. I wonder if folks are switching to the SE version(s), or some other 35. (I think when this was released, many bought this lens because a 35 didn't quite exist that satisfied the itch, myself included.)
I'm so glad I get to stop asking questions and start showing pictures. Sadly the good weather did not coordinate with the mailman for the delivery of this beast. Looks quite good on the A7S.
