Btw. I buy my Voigtländers from here:
https://cvp.com/product/voigtlander-ba350a-21mm-f3.5-e-mount-lens

The CVP has been a good company to deal with. Highly recommended for anyone in the EU area (at least before they are gonna make the brexit). Usually deliver fast and their prices are pretty much unbeatable.

I bought this lens primarily to photograph my kids. I own lenses like the 85GM and FE 351.4 and they're great for paid work, but when your kit consists only of massive lenses it really kills your motivation to shoot for yourself. I also own the FE 50 1.8 and 35 f2.8 ZA, but those lenses are not the greatest so they don't inspire much motivation to shoot either. So I picked up the 40 f1.2 to create the motivation to shoot more for myself and it's worked out great as I'm addicted to this lens. Very fun to shoot with and the output never leaves me feeling like I'm compromising. I held off on this lens for so long because the thought of going back to MF felt like such a step backwards when you've got the phenomenal eye-AF of the a7rIII....but my hit rate is actually really high. I miss shots occasionally...but I was missing more when I wasn't shooting at all

CV 21 and 40 should be a great kit that can handle almost everything I like to shoot.

That is my main kit with the 85/1.8 too. But certainly the 40mm gets 80% of that use for sure!

This is already my favorite MF lens, too, and I've had it only for a short time... fantastic for portraits, great for landscapes, and even great for close-ups with the Marumi achromat. I love the way the focusing ring moves, makes it really easy to get decent shots even of moving subjects. I'll be shooting a lot with this lens when the summer holiday comes.

Here's another shot of the Mainz riverfront, this time at f/5.6. Shot in crappy midday light when I was doing the test shots I posted earlier.

Be aware that since Robert White is in the U.K. they cannot sell Voigtlander lenses to U.S. addresses. I ordered the CV 10mm last week for a really good price and they refunded my money the next day with an email saying they can’t sell to the U.S. Just FYI.

Last week they were celebrating the 70th anniversary of the "Luftbrücke" (Airlift) the allied forces implemented between June 1948 and September 1949, when West-Berlin was cut off from the rest of western Germany. They brought over some of the original planes for the celebrations, some were even restored to flying condition especially for the occasion.

By chance, one of the formations flying over our region (we live close to Wiesbaden, one of the starting points of the airlift) passed near us when we were out for our walk, me with the 40mm f/1.2 on the camera. I managed to snap this photo (at f/5.6 or f/8, I think).

Car show next to our hotel last night. A7R3 and my 40. My travel lens combo this trip is my 100-400GM and the 40 1.2. I brought along my 16-35 f4 but it it has not come out of the bag. I'm here for my daughters soccer tournament.

Hey Markus,

Great example of the surprisingly good crop-qualities of the Z6 and a further testament for the 40mm 1.2 as an allround ( also quite good landscape) lens!
So did these planes got all the way over to Berlin?

Thanks! I'm extremely happy with the lens and the camera-the Z system finally making it possible for Nikon users to shoot with some really nice glassware for other mounts, old and new.

Yes, the planes went to Berlin visiting some other cities first, here's a photo story showing some interesting pictures from the actual airlift (text in German).

Why shoot trees at f/1.2? Because you can. It's official: this is my new favorite lens.

Some shots from today's hike. All on Nikon Z6 at either f/1.2 or f/2. There was some processing involved to emphasize the "dark forest" mood, e.g. all the heavy vignettes were done in post, but mainly levels/contrast/saturation/curves. Hope you like 'em!

Have a great Sunday!

Markus

More family photos with the CV40. Trip to the beach for father's day. I'm really loving this lens. I have a wedding next Saturday, and while FE35 1.4 is still normal FOV workhorse, the CV40 will get the nod for posed shots.
