Just a example here of BB with regards to distortion
In C1 the suggested profile is first and as you can see its not good at all
Second image is just using the manufacture profile and you can see its much better. Still could use a touch more . Bottom liner Phase One needs to fix this

They answered my support request earlier today, acknowledging the fault and saying they would fix it. Meanwhile I repeated the test with a straight wall and as expected the picture is much better.
I'm super happy with the lens, although I can't hope to know how to test it to the extent you folks do (I don't know what I don't know).
If you'll excuse the piss poor composition, here's a picture of my Christmas tree. It is OOF on purpose, as I was curious about whether or not sunstars would still render.

Last day as pre-school photojournalist. Please excuse the (awful as usual) mixed lighting. Decided to forego monochrome and try to work some WB + color tweak mojo on the color versions. Last shot is CV Color Skopar 21 wide open.

Okay just tested my CV 40 1.2 . Starters DO NOT use the profile in C1. Its totally distorted, not sure why the heck that is. So select Manufactures profile for sure for your first image than do a select all than do a copy adjustments and apply adjustments out of the gate to your whole file. Than your done screwing with that. Its very close you could go in and work the distortion slider if you want to get critical.
Second news of the day. i got a extremely good copy
My notes
Interesting even at 2.8 the corners look outstanding but to the very very extremes F5.6 but seriously F4 is perfect. At F6.3 its diffracting. So its that good. On center test 1.2 is 1.2 but 1.6 is magic with that little extra contrast boast and 1.4 totally very very good. This one is a winner copy
Sunstars are starting at 2.8 and almost all CA stuff is gone at 2.8. All this equals a perfect copy of the CV 40...Show more →
Excellent news Mine arrives Thursday. Im sure it will rain non stop for the next week. Or at least all weekend.......

Please share your processing. I love it.

Ok, sure- if memory serves, these are tweaked LR presets, riffing off of either Fuji Pro 400H (my favorite film, when I want to splurge $12 on a roll) or Fuji Pro 800Z (which I'm not even sure still exists) from RNI aka Really Nice Images. I found that, like the film, the presets do really well to give neutral colors under artificial light.
I may or may not have left the default grain effect, but I left the individual R, G and B tone curves as-is, but raised or dropped the black point on the main RGB curve to soften the rolloff and "crush" or block up the blacks, while reducing low-end contrast - to taste, depending on the scene. Then I increased global contrast.
With the HSL sliders, if the WB had to be set more for the interior lighting (2850-3300k) I dropped the blue and magenta saturation to offset the "blue" sunlight, and played with the orange and yellow sliders, usually boosting slightly. If it had to be balanced toward the exterior (4200-5500k) sunlight, I did the opposite - dropping the oranges, raising the blues, playing with global saturation afterwards.
Does that make sense?
Holidays are killing me over here, I need a nap!

Awesome! I'm glad you are supporting them. Of all the ones I've tried, theirs seem to need the least amount of tweaking with SOOC raw files. Of course, if you are very particular, or like to shoot in THE WORST conditions, they are easy to tweak and re-save. Enjoy!
Nice work, too!

imagesfromobjects, those photos came out sooo clean. Just got the RMI preset pack. Nice job!
Just FYI . Im not going to post the whole BB test on my new CV40 1.2. This is my second time i bought this lens but its a very good copy.
So at F5.6 is the ticket for pixel peepers the difference between F4, F5.6,F6.3 is the very very extreme corner. The last 1 or 2 percent of the frame. You can see it in the left crop but seriously the only time this MAYBE relevant in real world is copy work and you would not be using this lens anyway. This again is serious pixel peeping because it really nailed it at F4 for most anyones needs.
Im more impressed with it on center this copy. The difference between 1.2 and 1.4 is very minimal and really a micro contrast boast. Also lets get real here a F1.2 lens will never match it at 1.8. Thats just unrealistic but at F1.8 it does not get any sharper on center and honestly 1.4 looks damn good
Looking at the crops it maybe At F 1.6. Seriously I never shot this lens at 1.2, i just know better. It takes a touch down
BTW there is some copy variance with the CV 40, we have seen a little of this. So if your not getting these kinds of results than you may want to look into that.
I view this lens as a 2 for 1. Wide open of near it a great character lens for people but getting it down to F4 and smaller its a great landscape , general purpose lens. At some point I may compare it against my Sony 50 1.4 for not so much sharpness but bokeh and such. Be a interesting test
And now we are pushing 165 pages on this lens. Obviously a very popular lens in the arsenal .

At this distance, the CV 40/1.2 really shines wide open. The only issue is at closer distances (< 0.7m) towards MFD...I wish it was possible to design it with a floating group to compensate. That's a compromise for having such compact f/1.2 lens and I can live with that.
It's really sharp at f/2 at center matching the performance of one of the sharpest 35mm lenses, the CV 35/1.7 Ultron.
I agree, Guy, I'm usually at f1.4+ although it's great to have the option of f1.2 when the need arises. I used it in very very low light on Halloween where every bit of light matters.
Bokeh test against the 50/1.4 would be interesting, probably the biggest differences will lie off-axis and with mid-range/transition zone bokeh. That's at least where I've found the CV40 has more "character" or imperfection or funk or whatever you want to call it. For the most part it's not objectionable though, at least to me, and outside of that the lens displays beautiful OOF rendering. Below is a recent shot that shows it a bit in the upper left with some small branches in the background but the rest is just a beautiful, soft rendering. This is at f1.4:

I'm glad you got a good copy Guy!
Thanks Fred and let’s remember we can add some clarity and contrast to images at f1.2. I don’t do that on tests so we have some options but agree this is stellar performance
