p.1 #1 · Good Evening / Good Morning at the Throne
Two from a recent tour through the southwest - chasing the weather. One never really knows what you're going to end up with when you head out to different locations. You can only put it on the calendar and hope for the best. All things considered - couldn't ask (or plan!) for any better.
The evening shot didn't look like much in the beginning - lots of clouds overhead and distance rain showers - but there was that break on the horizon.... As the sun began to set - it looked like things could line up - and they did! As the sun set through the opening - rays shot up the canyon to light up Wotan's Throne - which was great - but then the rainbow off in the distance was the icing!
Moisture stuck around all night - even had a lightning storm blow through. The morning was just as magical as the sun started to rise - producing various levels of "glow" - only to hit the crescendo as one of the most defined and stunning rainbows not only appeared - but lined up perfectly!
All in all - a great evening and morning in a special place. Hope you enjoy. CC are always welcome.

Nice pair of pics, Todd. If you didn't stay near that viewpoint overnight then you did a lot of driving for these images. It was worth it.
I can neither confirm or deny "overnight camping" in the parking lot. I will say there was not much driving involved.

Yeah, it was a pretty magical couple of days on the Canyon. Might have to go back.

Don't worry, Todd, I doubt there are any National Park Rangers or police here! I did the same thing this summer and simply stayed in my van in the lot. Sure made for easy access at dawn, and the images were worthy..
