First trip to Iceland. I'm just getting into the over 2000 shots I took there. I rented a camper and just went for it. www.gocampers.is I spent most of my time in the south and southeast as I only had 5 days to work with. I had four days of good weather which helped. The camper allowed me to drive and be where I wanted to be for sunrise and sunset (330am and 1130pm respectively). I mostly catnapped during the day and plotted for later that night. I lived on peanut butter and honey sandwiches and mountain dew. (sort of kidding) I'll probably write up some kind of trip narrative at some point. I learned a lot for the next trip including the reasons to buy the windshield rock insurance, as I ended up buying a new one for my van after a rock hit it hard with about an hour left in my trip
Honestly this trip changed my life....corny as that sounds. i did the Everest base camp trek in Feb and Banff in June and they paled in comparison. The thing about Iceland is sometimes we shooters go on trips and feel pressure to get great shots. But Iceland is so awesome that the amazing shots just keep throwing themselves at you. Its just relentless. At some point I just relaxed and took it all in.
Here are a few highlights
Lush green hillsides heading southeast along the coast
Jokulsarlon Lenticular Clouds
Jokulsarlon Ice and Waves
Jokulsarlon Blue Ice - Finally found a use for the 85 Otus
Jokulsarlon Ice Sunrise
Stokksnes Sunrise - Got lost and didn't go to the usual area
What my cat thinks of my time spent editing...
Thanks to many of you who were inspiring to me to go
Fantastic, one and all Mike! Now I believe your "4 legged child" is telling you enough of this and where am I in these photos?"
The glacial coloring of the ice, the sky/clouds are most dramatic!!!! Taking a camper was a great choice!!!!
Well done!
Dan
I agree with everything you said about Iceland. Been twice -and looking to go one more time (winter). Love the images presented - and funny thing - I think the one on the monitor (with cat) could be the best of the bunch!
I was thinking along the same line as Todd..
The image on the monitor is my favorite.
I am planning to be in Iceland later in August for 12 days.
This time I am including the area "Landmannalaugar" because of which my trip this time is planned for.
Glad to hear that you had good weather while you were in Iceland!!
ps: For rental car damage - most of the credit card company you paid for the rental would reimburse to you. Athough it would not cover the 'camper van' as I understand. Check it out!
Beautiful set, Mike! Love your ice sunrise. Jokulsarlon is amazing isn't it? You have to go back there in the winter, and do the ice caves, shoot the auroras, etc.

Already plotting a return this fall....
Hello Mike,
Good idea of returning plan to Iceland.
A few times a year, Icelandir has fantastic airfare sale. Keep an eye for them.
I managed to fetch $311 round trip to Iceland from IAD (Washington, DC), not only once but a few times!
Have fun!
wow thats sweet! We do have a nonstop Icelandair flight from SEA as well. Going in July at the height of tourist season, maybe it will be cheaper in the fall.
well, you know how I feel about these images from seeing them elsewhere...great set, some of the best, most diverse Iceland images I have seen...got my vote.
