Maybe not the best way to go about it with that FB post and all.

Edit: from what I understand, the photog posted the rant on a private FB group. Someone took a screenshot and it's taken off like wildfire.

Usually I get requests / joke requests to photoshop them to be thinner. It's different when one is proud to be obese

"Bad lighting and blurry pictures isn't cause by fat" -- Solid burn though...

Also, that photoshop work is hilariously bad.

Lots of photographers, including me, have gone off on rants both here and in private FB groups... I would be furious if someone made that stuff public and not anonymous.

Two tips ...

1. Don't join web forums with your real name
2. Keep your rants generic

Or use your real name and act like a human being online?

I may be confused. Tom, are you actually in support of this photographer in the story?

I think most would agree that this photographer simply doesn't know what they're doing. It's not always about shooting. It's also about handling people as human beings. Not only does the FB post make the case... a basic Google image search of the photog's business name should exhibit they have no business charging people. I mean, it looks like they picked up a camera yesterday. They obviously have no idea how to conduct business or treat people.

Why is it wrong to support the photographer? I feel sorry for the newb girl-photographer who did the job for very little money, did the best she could, including editing which she thought would be welcomed by the clients( don't tell me you never had clients who wanted to look skinnier with some photoshop magic). Instead, clients shamed her skills, demanded full refund, including the money for the engagement session and then left a negative review of her services.I am sure those clients knew who they are hiring and photographer's limited experience/portfolio and based on the monetary compensation, they clearly were after "cheap/budget".

Sure, public shaming by the photographer on FB wasn't cool, but that's after she was unfairly treated by the client so I can sort of understand her being hurt.

Hope that makes sense. Such stories are never one sided...

Did you actually look up the photographs? Given your response, I really don't think you did... but allow me to answer...

First, the cheap/budget argument doesn't even play into what happened here. (outside the client's view) Your "newb" photographer took it on herself to make them thinner. This has nothing to do with cheap/budget services. They specifically stated they never asked for such a service. Then, the "newb" photographer got her feelings hurt when the client was mortified by her own actions, and ranted about it on social media - which is NOT how a professional photographer handles such a situation. Thus, this person should not be in the business, and they definitely shouldn't be charging people.

If you've done the research as I have, you'd see this is an older housewife that decided to pick up a camera and charge people. She simply deserves consequences for her actions. I'm fairly sure she's received them, and I'm quite sure they were warranted.

This is not a case of a one-sided story. Both the client and "photographer" told their stories. One, to qualified interviewers; and the other, in a rant on Facebook. I never saw how she was "mistreated" by the client. Please feel free to show me that part. The case is quite obvious. This newb screwed up.

No, I did not go to the photographer's website so I may not know as much as you do. As you said it yourself the photographer is a housewife with a camera. Clients knew about it when they hired. You can't fault a photographer for being a newbie and want to make money. Most wedding photographers out there are part timers and we all started somewhere. I certainly know a bunch who were charging money right from the beginning and I can't fault them for that. As a newbie, you screw up and a lot of clients hiring a newbie deep down are all aware of that fact, but are more interested in someone cheap.
I also know photographers who touch up photographs slightly without clients even asking.
And I've done it myself on more than a few occasions; AND I know plenty of wedding photographers who do this as well( including a number here on FM). That's not anything new...
Just very recently in an engagement session a bride who does not have double chin was in great pose, but it added a bit extra so I just edited that photograph and I am sure bride would have thanked me if she knew it.
I am not sure I ever worked with a client who would have asked for full refund IF I made them look better in photographs - that just makes no sense to me. They were welcome to ask the photographer to re-edit,but asking for full refund due to the extra editing was not very nice of the couple IMHO. Then the couple left a negative review for the photographer which led to all that.

AGAIN, this is just my opinion. I am not on the side of the photographer who I DO believe should not be in the business due to the social media posting tantrum.
