Here are a couple of compositions from Friday night along the Upper Yosemite Falls trail. The portrait view is what I had pre-envisioned, but I liked the lights from the valley in the landscape view as well. Both shots are single exposures.

Any thoughts are always welcome.

An excellent example of the only time blue sky is accurate in nightscapes - when there is bright moonshine. Good job.

Both are fabulous Kyle, but I think #2 takes it. Every last bit of space in the frame spends well.

excellent for single shot exposure ... #2 w/ the valley lights for me. :')

imho, moonlight doesn't make for a visually blue sky but instead rather monochromatic. unless you have edited for blue sky...

Both are terrific, but I love horizontal with the artificial lights in the valley.

Hey Kyle,

Pretty nice work here. You did pretty good with getting the Milky Way to show up even with that moonlight. I like the look of #1 the best, though I do like seeing more of the Milky Way spread across the sky in #2. I don't care for the valley lights in #2 though that would have been hard to avoid.

That's my struggle with the 2nd too. I got low to try blocking lights with the trees and cloned out a few as well, but didn't want to make the wholesale changes necessary to get rid of the rest.
