This was a relatively impromptu portrait in that I was actually there to shoot landscapes images and didn't have any portrait lenses. Fortunately, at least I had a 70-300mm such that, when Laura asked me to take her picture on top of the fire wave, I was able to shoot at 300/5.6. The Valley of Fire is a national park outside of Las Vegas.

Very true. I suppose I should've said I didn't have my "routine" portrait lenses. But even a wide angle can have its use in portraiture. :-) Thank you.

Yes, I had never known her prior. But she saw me standing there with my camera waiting for the light and asked if I'd take her picture. It turns out we have a lot in common and have since become 'cyber' friends.
