5 weeks here at home with serious gloomy weather daily, but a very early surprise. The EBBs usually don't make an appearance until later in spring

David thanks for the link.
Really a long trip they make. I'd guess New Mexico feels like me going to Florida compared
to their breeding grounds.

You're very welcome Robert. We very rarely get the odd one here but loads of snowgeese (nowhere near the huge numbers of SG's they get on the eastern flyway)

I now declare the 400DOii+2.0TCiii+MC-11 native. Fast acquisition at any distance. I'd also done the firmware update on the Metabones with sad results. The MC-11 is just plain old good.

Today's bierd at 800mm via the DOii and 2.0TCiii

Am I right when I say that the Canon 400DOII seems to be practically free from the nervous, jittery bokeh with converters that plagues many slower (f5.6) lenses with converters, especially when the subject is distant, but relatively close to a background?

I have narrowed down my choice for replacement of my Pentax DA560 (also suffers from nervous bokeh) now to either the Canon 400DOII + 1.4tc + 2.0tc, ór the Nikon 500PF + 1.4tc.
I will not go the 500/4 heavy lens route.

Chris, Arbitrage will give you the real answer. You know how much I love the 500PF, but if the house were burning I'd grab the DOii.

Robert thanks.
I am taking my time here, because I want to buy thé birding lens that I will be using the next 5 years.
I can not remember seeing a single shot that I found to have baddish or even mediocre IQ from the DOII once. I like all the shots I see from this lens, regardless bare, with 1.4tc or with 2.0 tc. I realise this is no small feat, not having tried the lens myself. I would use it temporarily on the A7rII with mc-11, until the Sony A7000 comes along.
I kind of envy you guys having the means to try and use them all, but I tend to narrow down my gear anyhow, having sold everything for general shooting except three Loxias and the A7rII.
The DOII has the portability that after 5 years of lugging 3.1 kg + tc + body with grip around on hikes (Pentax) has become very desireable, much more than for someone exploring nature by car. With the DOII and a mirrorless body, I can choose one of the two tc's and hiking and cycling out in nature will be a lot more comfortable!

Chris

Chris you have a well thought out plan based on use and desire....more than most do.
Glad you like the Loxias. I have a 21mm and I hate it Much prefer the 24/1.4GM, hard for me to
get the sucker on and off the body, hood falls off too easily, just a pain.
