Thanx MedicineMan, but still not as good as yours photos on Flickr (especially the cormorant BIF reflection photos), Was lucky that the birds pose for me.

Also looks like you got along well with the zoom and 2.0TC.
Thanks Robert. I had a bit of a struggle getting sharp sequences with the 2xTC for BIF. Not sure why because it looked like through the EVF that the tracking was perfect with the green dots glued to the bird. But the resulting files were mostly OOF. That CE above was 1 tack sharp frame out of 10...the rest were not even close but it was really flying close so that probably isn't a fair test. I still have more sequences to cull through with the 2xTC to see if I got some better ones. The combo has great IQ though when it focuses properly.
The A9 really impressed me. It is the first mirrorless that I can handle the EVF because of the blackout free and the tracking is insane with this camera. Shooting sequences with the bare 100-400 or the 1.4TC gave 40+ sharp shots in a row with some erratic subjects even over rippled/reflective water and a small tern....very nice!! I tried the A7R3 also and it was basically unusable for me because of the blackout for anything that wasn't dead still on a branch....BIF or bird moving around the bush was super frustrating.
Geoff that is great news you enjoyed the a9 and the zoom for the most part----sad about the A7Riii. Funny how we came to different conclusions on it. I found it capable of BIF but I've still got the A7Rii so maybe I'm just mentally judging those two against each other. The A7Riii, as fast as it is compared to the Rii feels a slug compared to the a9.

It can get shots and AF just fine. It was just the blackout and lag in a burst while panning that was totally unusable for me.
I'd say! Well you know it was a Godsend to me with the overall weight issues an old man deals with.
Hey Geoff, wanted to ask.
Did you get to play with Mitesh's RX10iv. That's my future!

Mitesh doesn't have it anymore....he was going to buy one before the trip but didn't get it. So no, didn't get to try that...maybe Tony will let me try someday if I ever meet him
