So, my favorite focal length is 50mm on FF....
My favorite 50mm lens has been the Canon 50/1.2L...
Since I've moved to Sony I've tried the 50/1.8, 55/1.8 and currently own the 50/1.4 ZA...(which to me, has almost as much "pop" as the 50/1.2L) all 3 have been VERY sharp and the 55 and 50ZA are very nice lenses.
But, I still miss my old 50L....
Anyone using the MC-11 with the 50/1.2L? Was hoping that combo would work as the MC-11 is only $149.99 now..
I do miss my 50L too. I think Jason Lanier tested the 50mm 1.2 with the A7RII but the with the Metabones IV and worked great. I don't see why the MC-11 would work any different.
I had my first copy of the 50L during my Canon days and I noticed a focus shift issue between f/1.8-f/2 or so. And I didn't feel like taming it back then. So, I sold it. I bought another copy and used it with Metabones IV on the A7 II and A7r II. The results were great but as a part of minimizing lens clutter, I sold a lot of non-native non Sony FE lenses, including that lens unfortunately. Although I miss that 50L lens alright but the Sony FE 50mm f/1.4 has been providing a lot of comfort lately and I am sticking to that.
Yeah, I went through the same issues with the 50L until the later bodies seemed to fix it...I really like my 50/1.4 ZA and IMO it's the best AF 50mm in native glass...I've seen limited tests on YouTube and DPreview with the 50L/MC-11...But I usually get the best and most reliable info right here..
I pulled the trigger on the MC-11...Guess the worst thing that happens if I buy a 50L is that I sell it if it's not quite what I was hoping for...
Still though...if you've tried the combo, I want to hear about it!
I have not tested the MC-11, but the 50L and 85L II worked extremely well with the MB IV with the later FW updates. These lenses are slow in AF which you would expect, but the AF accuracy is great. Having had the 5D, 5DII and 7D with the 50L and 85L, I was frustrated with AF accuracy and consistency. Fast lenses like f/1.2 are unique and a look you cannot duplicate easily. I still miss my 50L and 85L II
50L was by far my favorite combo for canon, and I used it a while on the A7r/A7rii. My original intent of purchasing the lens was because all other 50 options for canon was horrible. The size and weight was simply too much to deal with on sony, I got lazy. Same can really be said about the 135L, still have it, dont use it often. I do occasionally get nostalgic about those lenses, then when I mount it, I get annoyed.
using the 50 f0.95, rok 85 f1.4, 135L, nikon 200 f2, I can get a lot of bokeh shots with them, but they all annoy me when it comes to size and weight.
I can peacefully shoot 50mm f1.8 if reliable, and I'm happy with el cheapo sony nifty fifty. I really dig doing video with it, since it will AF, the FOV is great as well as the background blur.

Good to know, thanks...Yeah, not looking for fast AF, just accurate.
I love my 50L on the Sony via Sigma MC-11. Works great! Having this versatile lens for both my Canon and Sony bodies is a real advantage. I enjoy using my Canon EF lenses on the Sony via the Sigma. Zero interest in the Metabones models.
One quirk, not a big deal, is wide open on the Sony a7R and a7R2 the lens registers as f/1.3 on exif. As I said, not a big deal, just a weirdness.
My 50mm lenses for Sony are the 50L, Loxia 50, and Canon FL 50/1.2 -- nice range of effects. I'd like to purchase the new ZA 50/1.4 for native AF, but that's big, expensive, and redundant at this point.
I have the 50L with the metabones iv. The combination works extremely well on the a6500, which has the most recent (save the A9) autofocus system. Quick and accurate focusing in green mode . I also use it with the metabones speedbooster ultra, which yields about f/0.9 at 52mm on the a6500.

Well I have the 50L and it focuses real fast and I think very accurately with my Metabones IV adapter on my A9 and probably the same or close on the A7R3 but I haven't used it much on that yet.. The other amazing thing is that the lens at 590 grams and the adapter at 149 grams end up being lighter than the Sony Zeiss 50mm f/1.4 ZA. Based on that I plan to keep it since I am very happy with the results. Is the Sony better? I don't know. Maybe I will rent it to find out. I also have the FE 55mm f/1.8 which is great as well especially for its size. Also the 55 is a great fit for the A6500 as well with it being an 82.5mm equivalent at f/1.8.
