The focus limiter switch can set the distance the lens will try to focus. If you set it to 10m to infinity, the lens will focus only from 10m to infinity. This can help with faster auto focus since the lens will not be hunting through its entire focal range to get focus. This is very helpful if your subject will be within a set distance from you.
I think a 300 f/2.8 is a remarkable concert glass.
If you're stuck at the sound board, or, want to go in for upper bodies only. This glass length has always served me personally well. In poor light, these 'investments' in variable aperture glass is a waste of cash that will often bring poor results and have you questioning why you made the buy in the first place.
While the Sigma 500 Sport is heavier than the 150-600 Sport, it is very well balanced and feels about the same as the 150-600 Sport.
I don't think the 500 will solve your problem. Have you considered taking a seminar with a pro? The thigns you described would sound yet you are probably making some soft of error. Have you tried shooting BIF with the 150-300? This would eliminate the lens.
I have plenty of Photos like yours Trench.. just would like more keepers. That video was helpful. Thank you. I already had my Custom 1 setup like that. I had just forgotten where it was set. I know how the dock software works, but the video confirmed that I want the fast focus activated when I'm shooting birds. Thanks!

I'm doing that just now. I've been shooting with the 120-300 lately with the 1.4tc. We'll see. I'd love to go to a seminar with a pro. They don't have them in my area, but I am on the look out. I've watched a lot of Steve Perry's videos too. They are excellent.. I'm a fan. I wish I could afford one of his seminars!

I would say my subjects are almost always more than 10 meters away. 10m - infinity still seems to create a lot of hunting when trying to lock on to a flying bird which can be frustrating.
