Amazing sight to behold. Thanks for sharing. Do they ever run into each other when they fly so close to each other in large flocks?
Thank you Ryk,
Yes all the time yet there mass compared to size and there being in there air both contribute to gentle impacts.

Wow - that's more than I've ever seen in one place. You did a great job of capturing this large group with a good variety of views. #6 and #10 would be my picks of this excellent group.
Thank you Fred,
It has been a long time since I've seen this many sandpipers in one place and it's great to know they are flourishing. I love to photograph large flocks so this was a special opportunity.

Wonderful set telling the story of this flock in short time.
That building looks interesting on the edge of the land and sea. Is it abandoned?
Thank you Mark,
The pink building is a very popular hotel during the summer

Great shots...all our sandpipers are in breeding colors now, very few of yours.
Thank you Mogul,
The local ones are in breading colors. This flock just arrived and I suspect will pass through

Thank you Mike,
Yes it was quite a sight and they were exhausted so I suspect they just made the hop from New Jersey to Long Island.
I think you got your zoom's entire range of focal lengths worth out of this set Morris! I very much appreciate the way you worked the opportunity to provide such a varied set--everything needed to appreciate scope and scale as well as the fine details.
Thank you Ted,
I was thrilled when I saw the big flock flying toward me

The one that shows the three colonies is a panorama of about 10 images. I had a blast photographing this
