I actually last night took my sigma 135mm out on my AstroTrac which is a tracking device for the stars and did a star test with the lens and at F/1.8, all of the stars were pinpoint all the way to the corners. There is no chromatic aberration around any of the stars... it was fantastic. I realize that a star test probably doesn't mean much to any of you guys, seeing tiny points of light in the sky on a photograph. However that's really one of the best ways that I can check and test the quality of the optics by seeing how it produces or renders the tiny points of light in the sky. There was also very little vignetting in the image and F/1.8 and by F/2.8 the vignetting is gone and the image quality is improved more. So by using that test, I can tell that this is going to be one heck of a Astro photography lens. Can't wait to photograph the Milky Way using this lens!!! Anyway I just figured I would share how well corrected this new Sigma lens is. ...Show more →
Todd, I'd like to see your star tests if you would be willing to share them. I just picked up a Samyang 135 f/2 for astrophotography.

Ok, here is a star test. It's not great, but here it is. From a light polluted and hazy night. These were at F/2.8 to get rid of some vignetting. f/1.8 image stars don't look any different. The Sigma 135mm is a very well corrected lens.

Thanks for posting these. Definitely looks like it would be great for astrophotography. Corners are looking very good, even on FF.
Just noticed the spiral galaxy, too. Nice!
I agree! I'm going to the Texas Star Party in a week, it begins on May 21st in Fort Davis, Tx. The skies are fantastic out there. Can't wait to get some rich Milky Way photos along with many other objects. The Sigma 135mm is just as good, if not better than the Zeiss 135 f/2. The Zeiss vignettes much more wide open.
We took a Mother's day walk this morning and I finally got to use the 135mm! I hope everyone had a wonderful day celebrating all the great Mom's out there.
Lovely captures, Twistacatz. that's one happy little girl with a lovely smile, captured brilliantly by an excellent photographer with the excellent Sigma lens.

How about some Astrophotography!!!! I am currently in Fort Davis Texas at the Texas star party doing some astronomy and on vacation. I finally got a good dark sky to test this sigma 135 mm F/1.8 out on the night sky. Here are my results. This lens is fantastic for astronomy and the only reason that I stopped the lens down was to get rid of or control the small amount of vignetting that is currently seen when shot wide open. You normally don't see the Vin yet with general photography, but when processing Astrophotos it shows up. Let me know if any of you guys have any questions regarding these images.

How many galaxies can you count? This is the Virgo cluster and it is full of galaxies. Markarian's Chain is the curved trail of galaxies in the center.
