p.5 #1 · Roger tests the Tamron 70-200 F2.8 G2

I'd be shooting school sports, maybe some moto x, Rallye, etc.

Not usually relying on the Fro but he certainly knows his stuff shooting sports and concerts and he did compare the G2 to the Nikon E:

Seems like focus breathing is a MASSIVE issue, but the Tamron seems to keep up nicely when tracking a fast moving subject.

For me, the Nikkor E is not an option, since it's a full grand more expensive, but the VR II might be an option used, if it really is better.

I have been trying to decided if I should buy a VRII used or new G2 for about a month. 1300 dollars for a lens is a huge investment for me as a hobby photographer. I could only justify it to myself hoping to get lots of use from it with our family. I was all set to buy the G2 until a like new Nikon popped up here for a good price, it looks like both are far beyond my abilities. My transition to full frame glass has been rough on my wallet.

Bugger, just noticed this is the cannon forum. Disregard.

Sorry to bring up a dead thread, but maybe someone here can help me. I purchased a used 70-200 G2. I didn't come with the serial number card/paper. Where on the lens is the serial number? The only thing I could find is the A025 which is the model#. Thanks

Update: Nevermind... I found it. Located on the zoom ring directly opposite the 70mm mark. Very subtle text/etching.

I wish Roger had shown how the G2 compares with the previous version f/2.8. I've had mine for sale for a couple months now (but surprisingly no nibbles) and wonder if it's really worth the upgrade. I've heard one reviewer state that it's much better, and another state that it's only slightly better.

Maybe they will update the 700-200/4 to G2 as well. I rarely use the Canon f/2.8 II as it is due to the bulk and weight.

EBH

700 - 200 / 4
Where can I find one of those

Oh yeah, next to the Bugatti.
