This happens with all brands. Wait till they're open and exchange it, straightforward process. Congrats on your purchase

Cool to see that the sharpness seems to hold up!

I just received mine today, though, and there is a piece of dust inside on the second or third element. D: Probably not going to affect image quality (I can't actually check yet, the body I'm going to use it on is still in the mail), but it is easily viewable to the naked eye, and for a brand new, "dust resistant" lens, that also happens to be the most expensive I've purchase, I'm pretty disappointed. Not sure what to do about it, and B&H is still shut down for

05xrunner, not sure where you buy from but I have it at $469 less than a new Canon lens. So the Tamron is about 25% cheaper. So nope, not enough of a difference for me when you consider track record, proven longevity, and resale value.

sorry $500 is still a LARGE difference in price. once the rebate ends soon it will be $700 more again. Thats the cost of another lens. But you go ahead and worry about resale vale on a lens you didnt even buy yet.

Today I was in MediaMarkt, the largest German chain in electronics (like BestBuy) and the Tamron was 1925 Euros there, the same as the latest Canon version. A ridiculous price for the Tamron in my opinion compared to other countries.

Check with them if they ship to Germany, i think they would

That's some wacky variance across EU countries- is it all nation-specific tax?

Eglobalcentral is not a vendor I would buy from. There are lots of reputable sellers in Germany and prices range from around 1600 to over 2000 Euros online. Right now, with Cashback from Canon, the price differential is very low, otherwise Canon is about 300 Euros more. I opted recently for the Canon (one reason was CPS).

Eglobalcentral is grey import from Hong Kong thru the UK to avoid taxes VAT).
As the UK is leaving the UE this will probably ends.

VAT varies a little between different EU countries. AFAIK from 19% (Germany) to 25% (Norway)

If price difference is very low there is no point to bother with Tamron (presuming you need 70-200 for Canon mount).
I would also go with Canon's 70-200.

Nikon is twice as much expensive though, i have no doubts it is better but not two times better. I have found this lens on:eglobalcentral, hence i have posted the link with good price. Even if they sell grey market products in order to keep prices low for Tamron or Sigma it might be OK. I have never heard about regular and grey market lenses from Tamron or Sigma. I've got Sigma 50 Art from them and very likely will get Tamron 70-200 G2. Eglobalcentral is probably not for the faint-hearted type of customers though.

I must say I am not too keen on the whole look of the Tamrons. They remind me of the old first issue Tamrons from the 1970s. I think it will look dated quite soon. Not really important of course. The new Tamron looks very good, but I am with those who would save up for the Canon version. I don't think I could bear to have the zoom ring at the wrong end of the lens.

I have had the lens alomst 2months. The performance of the lens has been great for me all around. But I will say the only thing about the lens that is erking me is the zoom ring. I keep contemplating returning it and getting the canon just cause of that. That is the only thing that i dont like about the lens. I wish they would have put it in the rear and focus in front. The new $2800 nikon is the same way I dont get why they do that. you stretch to far to reach the zoom ring

Hopefully Sigma won't jump on this moving the zoom ring forward bandwagon...

How smooth/consistent is the zoom ring on your copies? Especially near the wider end?

I posted earlier in this thread about the dust in the front element of the one I received; I didn't end up returning it due to that (yet) because I've been busy with work with no time to think about it or shoot anyway, and B&H was shut down for the holidays, but I was playing with the lens a bit in the apartment last night, and it's really 'sticky' around ~80-90mm, like it hangs up on something. It takes a consistent amount of force to rotate it from 70 -> 200mm, and from 200mm -> 90 or so, but kinda gets stuck around 85-90mm, and I have to twist harder and then it 'jumps' to 70mm, instead of smoothly rotating. It doesn't seem consistent - sometimes it sticks worse than others, sometimes I don't notice it, but it's concerning nonetheless.

If this doesn't sound normal to those of you that have your own, or have used the lens, I'll try an exchange, but if that is normal, I may straight return it, or just save the headache/hassle of the return and deal with it.

I would say mine is linear through the whole zoom range of movement. There are no hangups even when turning very slow to try and feel one. Its not super stiff and not loose. I do hope it does loosen up a little over time though.

Thanks for replying so quickly! That's what I expected, but was afraid of hearing. I've sent it back to B&H to exchange it - hope the replacement arrives with no issues, since the first copy was very sharp and didn't require any AF tuning from what I could tell.

Finally received the replacement (they were backordered when B&H got my lens back for initial exchange, so it took a while), and it rattles! Do any of yours rattle/clunk when you move them around? My Fuji 50-140mm did this when not attached to the camera, due to how the focusing motors act when unpowered, so if it's normal or by design, then fine - but I don't remember the first Tamron copy doing this. Seems to have gotten quieter after being mounted to the camera for a while, so I suspect it's something with the VC system that maybe got in a weird state? It also seems to have some serious front/back focusing (depending on focal length) that I can't seem to dial out.. D500's auto AF-tune failed several times, and then assigned +19 at 200mm, like it's almost uncorrectable. This makes it even further off at 70mm. Haven't tried to dial this out with the dock yet, but wow, what a pain.

I've already missed one event that I needed this for from sending it back the first time, and have another next weekend. If I send it back again, I definitely won't have a replacement in time, and I don't want to keep bothering B&H about something that's not really their fault.

EDIT: In other news, this one doesn't have dust inside it and the zoom ring doesn't seize up like the first at 90mm, so that's progress, at least.

Finally got my hands on this lens. I wanted to replace my Nikon vr1 and did a quick comparison. For those who are thinking replacing VR1 here some thoughts.

Tamron has faster and more accurate AF, better image contrast and VR (the VR3 setting is absolutely fantastic! , the Nikon VR feels very slow and noisy).

Nikon on the other hand has a better lens design (I like the slimmer design), the focusing ring is closer to the camera and feels much smoother and lens has no focus breathing. These are not deal breakers for me and I think I can get used to them.

Boheh, CA, Lens flare control all is about the same.

The very last thing is sharpness. My copy of Tamron was super soft right out of the box. It had sever front focusing. On both of my D750s not even +20 fine tune would fix it (according Reikan Focal I would need +36 and +32). However, when I focused manually via live view the images were super sharp (sharper than Nikon)

Unfortunately my copy is a lemon and I'm going to return. But I want to give it another try. This can be a great lens when calibrated properly and I hope my next one will be good.
