Camp out on the dunes if you can. It's an excellent experience. Then you can catch sunset and get yourself setup for the perfect sunrise shot.
The weather is typically very comfortable this time of the year but can turn very cold or extremely hot at anytime.
Bring a GPS. After roaming the dunes for a few hours they begin to look the same. Leaving after sunset back to the vehicle could be a bit of a problem it you don't have waypoints marked.
Bring lots of memory cards.
